As an Intellectual Property Associate in Microsoft's U.S. Intellectual Property Group, in its Corporate, External and Legal Affairs department, you'll have a unique opportunity to work alongside a diverse team of professionals who are focused on building and maintaining one of the world's great intellectual property portfolios. This 2-year fellowship starting August 2019 will expose you to attorneys and engineers who apply their expertise to build and license Microsoft's patent portfolio in areas as diverse as artificial intelligence, gaming, virtual reality, productivity and cloud computing. As an Intellectual Property Associate at Microsoft, you'll work within our Intellectual Property Group in Redmond, Washington during your two-year fellowship. You'll have a broad range of responsibilities from across the group which may include: Helping to harvest patentable ideas from company engineers Working with internal and outside counsel to transform those ideas into patent applications Working with our tools to coordinate work on applications, such as tracking filing deadlines and other requirements Conducting research on issues related to innovation and patent law Assisting in drafting
Applicant must be a current 3rd year student or recent graduate from an ABA accredited law school. Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or another STEM-related subject such as Physics or Math that included coursework that will enable the Associate to be comfortable in a highly technical setting. Excellent analytical ability and drafting skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively across a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
