Global Specialty Fulfillment (GSF) comprises Prime Now, Fresh, Pantry, Restaurants, Whole Foods, Special Handling, Treasure Truck, and Campus operations, where last mile capacity management and work assignment are managed by GSF Central Operations (CO). One of CO’s top goals is to develop a scientific and analytical process that identifies opportunities in quality improvement, cost reduction, drives efficiency and scalability of the business, and fundamentally changes the way the business operates. We are looking for a Sr. Operations Research Scientist to lead such effort. Responsibilities: You will be the first research scientist on a growing team alongside business analysts, business intelligence engineers and system development engineers. You will lead design of an analytical process that extracts patterns from operational behaviors and untangles different business processes to identify root causes for defects and key drivers for improvement. - Ph.D. in Operations Research, Transportation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or related field OR Master’s Degree plus 10 years of industry experience. - Experience in simulation involving large data sets, or simulation-based design and model-based engineering, using analytical and simulation-based techniques to solve real world business problems. - Experience developing optimization models for business decisions. - Experience writing scripts (Perl, Python, Ruby) to manipulate data and developing software in traditional programming languages
