Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Role: This is an electrical engineering position focusing on modelling, design and testing of solar cell technology for the project Kuiper satellite program. You will be an electrical subject matter expert in the area of battery cells and battery pack electrical design and will work with mechanical teams to implement energy storage solution for a LEO satellite. You will study options for battery cell technology and solutions, and provide electrical input on cell selection trades for current and future satellite designs. You will create and maintain detailed electrical models of battery cell and pack and understand impact of age, usage and temperature. You will design electronics required for the battery management system. You will own and/or manage test campaigns to validate
· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or relevant experience · 7+ years of electrical engineering experience specifically battery design · Graduate degree with focus on battery technology · 7+ years of experience in battery design for space applications, from conceptual phase through production · Good understanding of DCDC power converters for battery charging, and battery charging algorithms/control · Extensive experience in design and testing of battery designs for space environments · Ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations; experience working in cross functional groups
