Description
The Worldwide Grocery Stores (WWGS) Sustainability team utilizes science-based approaches to lower Amazon's environmental impact across carbon, waste, water, biodiversity, and social responsibility. We're driving measurable decarbonization progress across our operations and supply chain, making meaningful impacts in the communities in which we operate. We're seeking an experienced Senior Program Manager to lead carbon reduction initiatives across our global grocery operations. This role will directly impact Amazon's path to Net Zero Carbon by 2040, driving tactical execution of decarbonization programs while building the measurement and mechanism infrastructure that enables data-driven decision-making, planning, and progress tracking.
Working at the intersection of WWGS operations, supply chain, and central Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) stakeholders, you'll collaborate with senior leadership and working teams across organizations internally and externally to develop and scale programs that reduce carbon emissions across our retail operations, transportation networks, and global supply chains. You'll own the end-to-end carbon measurement, planning, and tracking systems for WWGS, delivering leadership updates and forecasted plans on carbon through 2040. You'll also drive supplier engagement with our network of 1000+ suppliers to drive tracking, goal setting, and action toward our decarbonization plans. You'll juggle multiple projects—from setting carbon intensity goals to evaluating new sustainability tools—while preparing stakeholder reports and partnering with senior leadership to drive Amazon's Net Zero 2040 commitments. This role is accountable for WWGS' contribution to at least one S-team goal.
This role offers the unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on global sustainability practices. Your work directly shapes how millions of customers experience sustainable grocery shopping and drives measurable progress toward Amazon's climate commitments.
This is a high-visibility and partnerships-driven role. A successful candidate must be able to work independently, be comfortable with ambiguity, and influence internal and external partners at all levels of the organization.
Key job responsibilities
Decarbonization Program Execution and Coordination
• Lead scalable carbon abatement projects across WWGS's diverse value chain, partnering with WWGS stakeholders, sustainability subject matter experts, and external partners including suppliers to drive execution from design through implementation
• Act as operational lead and liaison for carbon programs across the organization, coordinating with diverse stakeholders to maintain programmatic health and execution momentum
• Monitor goals, progress, and key indicators of success for carbon initiatives, providing regular updates to keep work on-track and on-target
Strategy Development and Operationalization
• Drive tactical decarbonization roadmaps, in partnership with climate SMEs, to pilot and implement lower carbon solutions across buildings, private brands, and transportation
• Support setting and tracking WWGS carbon intensity reduction goals on an annual and long-term (3+ year) basis
• Identify Pan-Amazon opportunities to force multiply and accelerate decarbonization progress across the company
Carbon Data and Mechanisms
• Gather and coordinate stakeholder input data to support measurement and reporting needs from WWS Measurement and Science organizations
• Own mechanisms to track historical records, build and maintain forecasts, improve data fidelity, and integrate WWGS data into enterprise-wide measurement, tracking, and reporting systems across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
• Drive assessment and adoption of new Amazon Sustainability tools that accelerate decision-making while reducing effort across stakeholders
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, biannual, and annual carbon updates (MPR, QBR, stakeholder one-pagers, biannual Net Zero Transition Plan update) by collecting inputs from key stakeholders
Stakeholder Management and Supplier Engagement
• Lead supplier engagement process for carbon data collection and top supplier goal-setting in partnership with WWS
• Build and maintain operational relationships with internal and external business partners to support carbon program execution
• Coordinate cross-functional working groups to drive alignment and progress on carbon reduction initiatives
• Facilitate communication and collaboration between WWGS teams, sustainability experts, and external partners to ensure program success
A day in the life
You start the morning reviewing progress dashboards for active decarbonization projects, flagging risks, and syncing with internal stakeholders to keep initiatives on track. By midday, you're deep in a cross-functional working group, aligning teams on a supplier carbon data collection effort or pressure-testing a new roadmap for lower-carbon transportation solutions. The afternoon might bring a conversation with a product supplier — learning firsthand about the realities of food production, from agricultural inputs to cold chain logistics — and translating those insights into an actionable Scope 3 decarbonization project scope that works for both sides. Later, you're rolling up your sleeves with a project team to troubleshoot a stalled initiative, cutting through ambiguity and coordinating across functions to get execution back on track.
No two days look exactly the same, but your work is always anchored in one mission: driving meaningful, measurable progress toward a lower-carbon future for WWGS.
About the team

You'll work cross-functionally across the company because sustainability isn't just our job, it's everyone's opportunity to make an impact.
