Description
We’re the Devices & Services Design Group (DDG) at Amazon. Our organization drives design innovation for Echo, Fire TV, Fire Tablets, and more. Our team is responsible for designing innovative entertainment experiences for tens of millions of Fire TV and Fire Tablet customers. We are looking for a Visual UX Designer to set visual direction and build the components from which our product experiences are constructed. As a Visual UX Designer on our team, you will have significant impact on our business and define the expression and building blocks for Fire TV and Fire Tablet experiences. You will invent and deliver throughout the strategy, design, and development lifecycle to build customer-focused solutions at scale. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open and collaborative peer environment. You must be able to lead projects forward in the face of ambiguity. You will play an integral role in defining design systems, their theming, spec’ing for hand off, and designing delightful and highly-usable digital experiences.Key job responsibilities
- As a tastemaker you have a strong sensibility of grid, type, iconography, and color theory
- Design at appropriate levels of fidelity from wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes
- Create themes that set vision and can be applied to existing layouts
- Construct UI components for use by designers and developers
- Create and maintain component libraries
- Write effectively to communicate design patterns for designers and developers
- Effectively communicate design rationales and how they are expressed for specific business and customer needs
- Guide the broader team on how to leverage the design system
- Collaborate with other design teams to set and apply high level expression and branding that span across a range of devices and experiences
- Understand current design systems and work with partners to set deployment strategy
- Be a passionate and effective advocate for design with non-design audiences
- Effectively work with project managers to plan projects for effective delivery while maintaining high standards for design
A day in the life
In this highly visible role, you will work on some of the most challenging opportunities at Amazon today. You will use business requirements as well as user and market research to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and high-level requirements. On a daily basis, you will collaborate with a team of world-class multi-disciplinary designers, researchers, engineers, product managers and executives. You will use a variety of methods, including wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, high-fidelity mockups and specifications to communicate design thinking to senior leadership, engineering and product partners at every phase of product development.
About the team
You will join a team of designers working on Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices to deliver exceptional customer experiences. Customer obsession is at the core of all of our design decisions. We dive deep with product managers, designers, and engineers to learn how they are serving their customers. We work cross-functionally to craft scalable, cohesive, and usable solutions for our customers. The team makes strategic decisions that allow partners to take action, move quickly, take ownership and deliver results. We earn the trust of others within DDG to foster an environment of inclusion and openness, allowing everyone to do their best every day.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of design experience- 3+ years of delivering design solutions as a UX designer or interaction designer experience
- Have an available online portfolio
Extended Qualifications
- 2+ years of mass-market consumer web / mobile products experience- Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs
- Familiarity with Material UI (React) component libraries and experience adding to, maintaining, managing and scaling design systems.
- Experience building, testing and shipping digital products.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and experience iterating on your designs by gathering user/partner feedback.
- Experience prototyping user journeys using Figma, ProtoPie or similar tools.
- Systems design experience.
- Strong presentation, storytelling and writing skills.
- Experience presenting design work to user experience teams, product and engineering teams, and executives for review and feedback.
- Working knowledge of the foundations of engineering principles and how design translates into code.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $106,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $184,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
