Description

Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

The Leo Quality team is seeking an Quality Program Engineer to develop and implement performance metrics systems that provide operational visibility and guide decision-making across PCBA and General receiving inspection. The successful candidate will analyze end-to-end material flow to identify constraints, lead workspace and station improvements, and drive complex quality and process issues to measurable closure — ensuring receiving operations meet production rate demands efficiently and at the required quality standard.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

- Develop and implement metrics and reporting mechanisms that provide operational visibility and guide team decision-making for PCBA and General receiving inspection

- Support the mapping and analysis of receiving process flows to identify constraints, eliminate waste, and optimize throughput across inspection operations

- Lead technical deep dives to resolve receiving blockers related to documentation, test requirements, and process gaps (driving issues to measurable closure)

- Lead receiving workspace and station layout improvements to enhance flow, capacity, and inspector efficiency

- Develop and maintain quality performance dashboards and reporting systems that track capacity, quality yield, and receipt rates against production targets

- Apply quality engineering principles to validate inspection methods, reduce variation, and ensure receiving processes meet Leo production rate requirements

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align receiving execution with manufacturing priorities and identify emerging risks

- Implement and maintain control mechanisms to sustain improvements and measure their effectiveness over time

A day in the life

As a Quality Program Engineer at Leo focusing on Receiving Quality, you'll be responsible for building the metrics, process visibility, and workflow improvements that enable efficient and high-quality receiving inspection operations. Your day begins with reviewing incoming inspection performance data, identifying bottlenecks across PCBA and General receiving, and assessing progress on open quality and process issues.

Throughout the day, you'll:

- Analyze receiving inspection data to identify trends, constraints, and opportunities for flow improvement

- Develop and refine metrics and dashboards that give the team clear visibility into capacity, quality yield, and throughput performance

- Lead workspace and station layout improvements to optimize inspector efficiency and material flow

- Drive technical deep dives into process blockers related to documentation, test requirements, and inspection methods (tracking issues to measurable closure)

- Coordinate with Quality Engineering and cross-functional partners to align on incoming material priorities and resolve non-conformances

- Apply quality engineering principles to validate inspection procedures and reduce process variation

- You'll participate in technical reviews with engineering teams to evaluate inspection findings, support capacity planning, and present performance metrics to leadership.

Regular responsibilities include maintaining reporting systems that guide team decision-making, supporting Business Reviews with receiving quality data, and implementing control mechanisms that sustain improvements over time.

This role requires a blend of analytical rigor and hands-on manufacturing floor presence. The ideal candidate will have experience with quality systems, process flow analysis, metrics development, and a drive to make receiving operations visible, measurable, and continuously improving.
