- Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation to support prototype builds

- Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and integration of multi-DOF robotic mechanisms

- Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic structural/thermal calculations to inform design decisions

- Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and controls engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet system-level requirements

- Conduct hands-on testing, failure analysis, and design iteration based on test results

- Maintain clear engineering documentation (design reports, test procedures, change logs)

Qualifications

- BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent

- 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience

- Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies

- Experience with prototyping methods (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal)

- Familiarity with common mechanical components: gears, bearings, fasteners, seals, actuators

- Hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical hardware

Extended Qualifications

- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools

- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume

- Experience in robotics, mechatronics, or precision mechanism design

- Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)

- Exposure to FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or equivalent)

- Experience managing vendor relationships for prototype or low-volume production parts

- Familiarity with tendon-driven mechanisms, compliant mechanisms, or multi-DOF linkages

- Experience working in a lab/protoshop environment alongside electronics and firmware teams
