Amazon Manufacturing Services is an internal Amazon service specializing in the production of high-quality components through additive manufacturing (3D printing), CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly. We serve design engineers, product developers, operations engineers, and retail product concept testing teams across Amazon.About the Role
AMS seeks a second shift Subtractive Manufacturing Manager to lead our CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly operations within our world-class manufacturing facility. You will own day-to-day operations across multiple manufacturing disciplines, manage production teams, and drive continuous improvement in quality, throughput, and process efficiency. This role requires balancing production execution with technical problem-solving, team development, and cross-functional coordination.
Key job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Subtractive Manufacturing Operations
• Execute customer orders safely and successfully across CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly operations
• Manage daily production scheduling, work prioritization, and resource allocation across multiple manufacturing processes
• Maintain equipment uptime through preventive maintenance programs and rapid troubleshooting
• Track production metrics including throughput, quality rates, on-time delivery, and equipment utilization
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste
• Collaborate with additive manufacturing teams to ensure seamless workflow for hybrid projects
• Oversee CNC programming operations and manage programming capacity to meet customer demand
Quality and Technical Excellence
• Ensure quality standards are met consistently across all manufacturing processes
• Troubleshoot technical issues with CNC machines, welding equipment, sheet metal tools, and coating systems
• Develop and document standard operating procedures for all subtractive manufacturing processes
• Support ISO 9001 compliance through proper documentation and quality controls
• Evaluate new tooling, materials, technologies, and process parameters
• Partner with quality engineers to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions
People Leadership
• Lead, develop, and mentor CNC machinists, welders, sheet metal fabricators, powder coating technicians, and assembly operators
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching
• Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Manage interpersonal dynamics to drive team collaboration and output
• Build team capabilities through training and skill development
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Production Manager on capacity planning, capital equipment needs, and strategic initiatives
• Work with quality engineers to drive Six Sigma process improvements
• Coordinate with Customer Success team on order feasibility, timeline expectations, and technical requirements
• Support Business Development with technical assessments for new customer requirements
• Collaborate with facilities and equipment management on maintenance and upgrades
Qualifications
- 2+ years of hiring, leading and developing teams experience- 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience in CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, or related disciplines
- Strong technical knowledge of subtractive manufacturing processes and equipment
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
Extended Qualifications
- Experience in overseeing and managing projects and deadlines- Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience across multiple disciplines (CNC, welding, sheet metal, coating, assembly)
- Experience in contract manufacturing or high-mix production environments
- • Six Sigma Green Belt or similar process improvement certification
- • CNC programming experience with CAM software (Mastercam, ESPRIT, or similar)
- Familiarity with manufacturing automation and process optimization
- ISO 9001 quality management system experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
