Description
Amazon Leo is building a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. We're looking for a Hardware Integration & NPI Engineer to join our OISL organization, supporting hardware integration and NPI readiness for high-bandwidth optical intersatellite communication systems. As a Hardware Integration & NPI Engineer, you will own the critical seam between design release and production transfer — driving upstream quality rigor, bridging design engineering and manufacturing engineering teams, and ensuring hardware is production-ready before handoff. You will operate across an interdisciplinary space spanning NPI quality, test system integration, vendor qualification, and various systems level test venues.
This role serves as a technical engineering liaison between engineers, test technicians, and TPMs — shepherding test execution with a bias toward strong engineering cohesiveness and ensuring that QTP/ATP test execution, hardware readiness, and test software readiness are aligned well in advance of need. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can navigate ambiguity across multiple stakeholders, and drives clarity in complex cross-functional programs.
Key job responsibilities
Engage design and manufacturing teams early in the development cycle to embed quality requirements before design release
Lead production readiness assessments and ensure smooth design-to-manufacturing transitions
Support OISL Satellite Test Venues by driving cohesive execution strategies that balance hardware readiness and test software readiness
Drive QTP/ATP test planning well in advance of execution — ensuring qualification test sequences are scoped, paced, and resourced appropriately
Shepherd qualification and acceptance test execution as a technical engineering liaison between design engineers, test technicians, and TPMs
Interface with the Process/GSE team to ensure the right hardware is being prototyped and fabricated; own requirements definition and scope control for test system development
Establish and maintain incoming quality check (IQC) standards for qualifying vendors; assess vendor qualification gaps and drive readiness for new suppliers
Bridge design engineering and manufacturing engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle
Represent OISL hardware integration and readiness interests in design reviews, program gates, and production readiness reviews
Partner with the Manufacturing Liaison team during production readiness milestones to ensure smooth transitions from development to sustaining operations
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
You will work across Design Engineering, Lab Engineering, Manufacturing, Test Software, and Quality teams to drive hardware integration and NPI readiness end-to-end — from early design engagement through qualification test execution and production transfer. On any given day, you may be reviewing QTP test sequences with a test technician, aligning with a TPM on qualification pacing, coordinating with the PI-Team on hardware prototyping priorities, or evaluating a vendor's readiness for qualification.
This position requires strong technical judgment, cross-functional influence, and the ability to manage competing priorities across geographically distributed teams. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, proactively identifies gaps in production and test readiness, and drives engineering cohesiveness across disciplines. You will help develop strategies to scale products efficiently, bridging the gap between prototype validation and manufacturing readiness.
