Description
Amazon's NA Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) team is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to join our Automation and AI team. We sit at the intersection of data engineering, AI, and operations research — delivering solutions that help planners make faster, better decisions at scale. As a BIE, you must possess the ability to dive deep into large amounts of data, have a great business sense, curiosity, a proven ability to deal with complexity, and the desire to influence key strategic decisions through both analysis and automation.This position requires excellent statistical and analytical abilities, deep knowledge of business intelligence and data engineering practices, and a growing comfort with AI/ML development and software engineering fundamentals. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, capable of working in a fast-paced environment, possess a strong attention to detail, and able to collaborate with internal customers to transform business problems into scalable, production-ready solutions.

Key job responsibilities
As a BIE on our team you will focus on exciting and challenging problems, including:
- Building and maintaining source of truth datasets that power AI/ML models and generative AI applications across the planning organization.
- Developing AI skills and agents that automate insight generation, deep dives, and root cause analysis for operational metrics.
- Building web applications (e.g., Streamlit apps) that automate manual planning workflows, enabling self-service scenario modeling and decision support.
- Designing and implementing optimization models and solvers to improve network-level planning decisions (e.g., capacity allocation, resource balancing).
- Working with technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a variety of data sources using SQL, Python, and AWS technologies.
- Recognizing and adopting best practices in reporting, analysis, data integrity, test design, validation, and documentation.
- Following software engineering best practices for AI and application development, including version control (Git/code repositories), code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, security compliance, and responsible AI principles.
About the team
S&OP Automation & AI team focuses on strategic initiatives that improve the E2E customer fulfillment process. We support our planning and execution teams by delivering automated planning tools, AI solutions, prediction models, approachable and actionable analytics to enhance decision-making and optimize resource constraints.
Qualifications
- Experience building and maintaining basic data artifacts (e.g., ETL, data models, queries)- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data querying or modeling with SQL
- Experience with scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, or R)
- Knowledge of data modeling and data pipeline design
- Experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals, including architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization of model execution, or experience leading and influencing your team or organization
Extended Qualifications
- Advanced technical degree- Experience applying basic statistical methods (e.g. regression) to difficult business problems
- Experience gathering business requirements, using industry standard business intelligence tool(s) to extract data, formulate metrics and build reports
- Experience building web applications with React and modern web technologies
- Knowledge of optimization mathematics such as linear programming and nonlinear optimization

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
