Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than one hundred datacenters and one million servers. Our foundation is built upon and managed by a team of subject matter experts, who work tirelessly to support digital services for more than one billion customers and twenty million businesses in over ninety countries worldwide.
Within CO+I, the Core Datacenter Services (CDS) team is responsible for improving overall availability and efficiency for Microsoft’s cloud business. We have multiple teams focused on both Microsoft and Lessor datacenter performance and all aspects of datacenter utilization effectiveness that includes power, water and labor.
We are seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) to deliver a unified Data as a Service (DaaS) solution that unifies business-critical data across disparate reporting systems for managing Datacenter Operations and Supply Chain. This role is responsible for developing and driving the strategy for a central source of truth for Core Data Services reporting that will unify catalogs of data that are required for driving business decisions, operational insights, and performance measurement.
The ideal candidate combines strong product ownership and experience with data systems to provide a democratized reporting offering that is made scalable through governance, reporting automation, and KPI standardization. This person will drive efforts to consolidate, rationalize, and simplify how teams across the organization access, consume, and trust data—eliminating redundant BI reports, reducing manual correlation, and creating clear data benchmarks for measuring business performance.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the roadmap for Data as a Service (DaaS), focusing on creating a consolidated, reliable data catalog and unified reporting ecosystem.Partner across stakeholders including program leaders, operations, business, and data analytics teams to integrate and rationalize data sources across the organization.Partner with master data leaders in identifying, maintaining, and governing authoritative data sets that feed business critical KPIs used for decision-making.Lead efforts to benchmark and measure fundamental business performance metrics across major programs, functions, and tools where data is lacking.Identify redundant reports and dashboards; drive automation and integration of data pipelines to minimize swivel-seating and manual data reconciliation.Work with critical users and key leadership stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize backlogs, and deliver scalable, maintainable data solutions users can trust.Partner with security, legal, and HR stakeholders to ensure the DaaS capabilities are Microsoft and regulatory compliant.Collaborate with data governance and architecture teams to ensure data completeness and accuracy is tracked and measurable in line with business standards.Improve discoverability and usability of data through catalogs, metadata management, and standardized schema definitions.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. Additional or preferred qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.6+ years of experience in product management, technical program management, or data engineering/analytics.3+ years of experience implementing or integrating centralized KPI frameworks or scorecard systems.Demonstrated experience building or managing data platforms, BI ecosystems, or enterprise reporting frameworks.Understanding of data warehousing, data pipelines, and data cataloging tools (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Power BI, Tableau, etc.).Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to translate complex data needs into actionable technical requirements.8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
