Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO+I, the Core Datacenter Services (CDS) team is responsible for the development and implementation of global strategies across our Datacenters (DCs).

As a Senior Technical Program Manager of Datacenter Resource Efficiency, you will be responsible for managing PUE (power usage effectiveness), WUE (Water usage effectiveness), and resource compliance efficiency initiatives that directly impact our Global Datacenter Operations Field including process optimization opportunities, analytics around improvements, strategy of objective key results (OKRs) for efficiencies.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies for maximizing efficiency, tracking progress in a programmatic way, and ultimately contribute to reducing both our water and energy usage in the global datacenter fleet.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Technical Program Manager to join our dynamic team. The candidate will have a proven track record in managing enterprise level programs in a complex environment and optimizing performance across the organization. As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you will play a key role in driving a successful multi-year strategy around efficiency, implementation of strategies and ongoing management of our resource (e.g. PUE/WUE) efficiency & improvement initiatives across Microsoft.

Identifies complex opportunities and gaps within a product or multiple functional areas. Understands and starts to build experiences across multiple groups or divisions. Partners with relevant teams to design architecture and integrated customer solutions to complex technical needs for a product or multiple functional areas. Defines the program(s) goals and prioritization for various capabilities, features, or solutions for multiple products or functional areas they own. Defines success criteria and performance metrics for programs or integrated systems. Creates relationships and rhythm to drive orchestration and integration efforts with internal teams and external partners and/or stakeholders to develop and implement processes for large and complex cross functional programs, solutions, services, or integrated systems across multiple functional areas. Collaborates with relevant technical and business teams to contribute, prioritize, and deliver on the roadmap for a product or multiple functional areas. Breaks down the program into projects and ongoing operations. Partner with contributing teams and stakeholders to collect performance metrics, monitor and report on progress, and derive deep insights that lead to productive courses of action to improve development, iteration, and implementation of a product or multiple functional areas.

Responsibilities

Service/Initiative Definition

Act as a subject matter expert when defining the initiative goals and prioritization for the improvement areas they own.

Ensures cross-divisional teams translate the needs of the organization and other teams into program goals and prioritized deliverables based on data insights.

Drives cross-divisional teams to define success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs])

Provides strategic knowledge to help teams deeply understand the return on investment.

Service/Initiative Development

Oversee cross-divisional teams collaborating and coordinating across teams and perspectives to ensure alignment on management and release, including tradeoffs, adjustments, and improvements as feasible.

Oversee cross-divisional team tracking, coordinating, and communicating end-to-end project schedules for initiatives. Ensure team establishes and monitors processes, and hold other stakeholders accountable for following the established schedule and processes.

Service/Initiative Performance

Act as technical advisors to educate and evangelize the areas they work on with Field via meetings, presentations, and other forums.

Ensure cross-divisional teams participate in direct field engagements to solicit feedback and understand their experiences with the feature(s)/feature areas

Collaborates with relevant technical and business teams to contribute, prioritize, and deliver on the roadmap for a product or multiple functional areas (e.g., product, service, systems). Understands the value proposition for a product or multiple functional areas and answers technical questions on a product or multiple functional areas they own. Drives features or functional areas that utilize AI and ensure they meet quality, security, and ethical standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.

2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.

6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Background or experience working with datacenters and/or PUE/WUE requirements

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
