Overview

Microsoft’s Brand and Advertising organization is building the future of in-house creative excellence. We are looking for a Performance Copywriter on our in-house Creative team, an in-house capability at the intersection of brand strategy, advertising, production, and global storytelling.

This Performance Copywriter will be a founding member of a performance-first writing craft inside our in-house performance team, writing short, sharp copy across performance channels that drives action and builds preference. You will pair creative instinct with testing discipline, producing high-quality work at volume and iterating based on what the data teaches us.

This is an opportunity to help shape how performance writing works inside a modern in-house team and set a high bar for craft and clarity.

Responsibilities

Creative Leadership and Copy Craft

Set and uphold a high bar for performance copy, driving clarity, craft, and conversionWrite and ship short-form copy across search, social, display, and motion placements, including headlines, CTAs, and body copyBring concepts to life with language, collaborating closely with writers, designers and motion partners to write for GIFs, animations, and short video formatsPerformance, Testing, and Iteration

Produce high-volume copy variants quickly, then refine based on performance signals, creative testing, and platform learningsApply SEM best practices to search copy and landing-adjacent messaging, balancing relevance, intent, and persuasionPartner with media, measurement, and channel teams to learn fast, improve outcomes, and scale what worksOperations and Stakeholder Management

Translate briefs into clear copy directions and deliverables, working through efficient brief-to-output and review rhythmsCollaborate with cross-functional partners across creative, marketing, product marketing, and production to ensure messaging is accurate, compelling, and on strategyMake solid recommendations and defend your copy choices with sound reasoning, especially in high-opinion creative roomsWrite inclusive copy by default, avoiding harmful language and representing diverse audiences with care and rangeInnovation and AI

Use AI-powered tools responsibly to accelerate ideation, variation, and iteration while maintaining quality, accuracy, and brand voiceStay current on emerging creative technologies and platform behaviors, bringing new ideas into the work and into how we work

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1+ year(s) proven writing or content design experience AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related fieldOR equivalent experienceExperience with SEM copywriting and search best practicesDemonstrated understanding of creative testing and measurement, and ability to adjust copy based on analytics and performance feedbackSolid collaboration skills with creatives, designers, marketers, and cross-functional partnersPreferred Qualifications:

3+ years of professional writing experience in advertising, brand, marketing, or journalism2+ years writing performance advertising for major platforms, with solid instincts for CTAs and short-form persuasionComfort working in fast-paced, iterative environments with high-volume writing cyclesExperience writing inside an in-house creative organization at a global technology or consumer brandSolid ability to write from visual inputs, creating excellent copy from a single image, video, or GIF conceptDemonstrated ability to balance microcopy detail with bigger-picture brand and positioning considerationsExperience operating as the primary writer within a multi-disciplinary pod or small cross-functional team

Writing IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
