Description

We're looking for a Principal Design Manager within Microsoft’s Business and Industry Cloud team (BIC). In this role you will lead a multidisciplinary UX team (interaction, content, visual), and work in collaboration with high level stakeholders from across engineering, product management & user research to deliver the next generation of AI-first business applications!

As a Principal Design Manager within BIC’s Sales & Orchestration Apps Studio, you will deeply understand how sales teams from across industries identify new leads, manage their pipeline, and above all - close deals. It no secret that enterprise apps are hard to get right, and in this role we a leader who can cut through complexity with deep subject matter knowledge, user-centered design, and a commitment to ethical AI.

Managing teams at Microsoft is a big responsibility. You’ll be expected to scale your impact by creating clarity & energy and guiding your reports to grow their own careers as they become experts in designing for this new, generative AI world.

Work with a multidisciplinary and cross-product team to deliver beautiful end-to-end user experiences that drive business value  Actively work with product partners to prioritize workstreams to balance the team's ability to deliver value quickly, while balancing long term vision and strategy   Actively and responsibly champion customers, using direct feedback, user research, industry knowledge, and quantitative metrics to enhance and optimize user experiences.  Through active coaching, you will model empathy and humility resulting in a highly engaged organization and a culture of management excellence across your team as evidenced by your employee collective feedback  You will thrive in ambiguity and handle complex situations by creating clarity for your direct reports, your product management and engineering counterparts and colleagues across the Design and Research Studio.    Collaborate with leadership to formulate, refine and introduce plans that enable the team to drive generative AI investments.   Build organizational capability and steward talent management resulting in a diverse and inclusive team as measured by standard organizational health performance indicators.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service designOR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service designOR equivalent experience 3+ years people management experience.Other requirements:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to specialized security screenings such as the Microsoft Cloud Background Check. For this position, you’ll be required to pass the background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter. Additional or preferred qualifications:

6+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.5+ years people management experience. Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field and 12+ years experience working in product or service design

Product Design M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
