Description
Lead the development of the virtualization subsystem (VMM, CHV) at Google scale. Lead the development of specialized tooling to support engineering practices within the virtualization and systems programming space. Design and implement automation frameworks for build, CI/CD, and qualification testing specifically tailored for Rust-based VMMs and guest isolation layers. Support the delivery of the virtualization layer across millions of production hosts, ensuring compatibility across various product lines and hardware configurations. Build out observability framework to provide transparency into VM health and I/O performance, supporting a more data-driven and efficient release process.Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $174000 - $252000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++ or Go). 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
3 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture. Experience in systems programming, kernel-level development, and virtualization architectures. Experience in core infrastructure (e.g., Virtual Machines, Operating Systems, Infrastructure as a Service, Networking, Storage, Security, Hypervisor).
Preferred qualifications: Experience with virtualization. Experience in algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design, or in Unix/Linux systems, IP networking, performance and application issues. Experience in production infrastructure, and working in both engineering and operational environments: this team has one foot in each, and the successful individual will be able to bridge that divide. Knowledge of CI/CD best practices. Ability to take on challenges that bridge complex stakeholder contexts and take concerted, long-term goal and investment. Excellent communication skills.
