The Northwest Flight Test Transport Data Systems Team is seeking a Software Development Engineer to design, implement, and maintain web-enabled data ingestion, processing, visualization, and archival systems used in flight test programs. This position will report to Seattle, Washington.

This hands-on role will contribute to front-end and back-end development, data pipelines, CI/CD automation, system testing, and integrations with instrumentation and acquisition hardware. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, compliant capabilities to test & evaluation customers.

The successful candidate should have excellent debugging and documentation skills across software and systems architecture, the ability to research, evaluate, and test new software solutions, and proficiency coding in languages such as JavaScript, Python, C, and C++.

BT&E is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate or Mid-level Software Development Engineers.

Position Responsibilities Include:

Implement and maintain backend services (APIs, data pipelines), front-end web UIs, and real-time communication (WebSocket or equivalent)

Build and validate data ingestion, processing, and archival workflows that preserve data integrity under operational load

Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines.

Debug, profile, and resolve software and system issues across the stack in both lab and flight-test environments.

Contribute to CI/CD, deployment automation, and release pipelines

Produce and maintain technical documentation: architecture descriptions, interface control documents, runbooks, and test artifacts

Ensure designs and operations consider security, certificate management, export compliance, and disaster recovery needs

Participate in design/code reviews and mentor junior engineers as needed

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Experience in API design and development

Experience in web application development teams

2+ years of experience with software development on Windows or Linux

2+ years of experience in hardware or software requirements, design/development, analysis, integration or testing/verification activities2+ experience with developing, documenting and maintaining complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, software-to-hardware interfaces and designs for software systems

Experience in identifying and communicating business requirements with cross-functional and/or cross-business teams

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience with managing and deploying Kubernetes systems

Experience with CEPH storage infrastructure
