Description

Amazon is seeking an innovative and high-judgement Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join the Regulation Tech and Assurance team in the Amazon Privacy org. We own products and programs that deliver technical innovation for ensuring compliance with high-impact, urgent regulation across Amazon services worldwide. The Principal TPM – Data Access Control will own three key pillars: 1) act as the SME for how Amazon systems process customer personal data to deliver unique customer experiences, 2) act as SME for Amazon data controls that protect customer personal data, and 3) lead end-to-end technical design across infrastructure and business teams and 4) drive implementation of technical tasks while monitoring dependencies and reporting key risks, issues and blockers. The Principal TPM will contribute to the strategic direction for Amazon’s privacy practices while building/owning the compliance approach for individual regulations such as Digital Markets Act (DMA). This will require helping to frame, and participating in, high judgment debates and decision making across senior business, technology, legal, and public policy leaders.

A great candidate will have a unique combination of experience with data governance technology, high judgement in system architecture decisions and ability to set detailed technical design from ambiguous compliance requirements. You will drive foundational, cross-service decisions, set technical requirements, oversee technical design, and have end to end accountability for delivering technical changes across dozens of different systems. You will have high engagement with WW senior leadership via quarterly reviews, annual organizational planning, and s-team goal updates. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a strong background in technical program management/software engineering and a proven track record for delivering technical innovation in ambiguous regulatory environments.

Key job responsibilities

- Partner with senior engineers to map the origination, augmentation and destinations of customer data across systems.

- Lead high level and detailed technical design with senior engineers to create compliant and efficient architecture for enforcing user consent.

- Oversee scoping and funding of technical resources required to deliver the technical design across teams.

- Drive implementation of technical tasks, monitoring key dependencies and reporting risks/issues/blockers.

- Own a broad scope and plenty of opportunity to influence technical direction across Amazon business and engineering teams.

- Act as single threaded tech lead accountable for understanding and leading end to end data flows from origin through destination.

- Set a comprehensive program portfolio to deliver an ambitious 3+ year vision of technical innovation.

- Engage with Principal Engineers, Engineering-Managers and PMTs to reach decisions on hotly debated technical topics.

- Hold partner engineering teams accountable for setting and delivering ambitious goals that improve competitive practices within their services.

- Identify inter-system dependencies and align on then monitor paths to address them.

- Participate in quarterly business review series and s-team goal updates with Senior Vice Presidents.

Qualifications

- 10+ years of technical product or program management experience

- 10+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

- 5+ years of software development experience

- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

- Bachelor's degree

- 10+ years of hands-on work managing complex technology projects experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
