Description
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.The Tooling Engineer will support the program on path from R&D, through design validation, into production. You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing (QTP/ATP) the satellite. You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling. You will manage and support fabrication, testing and commissioning of the tooling into manufacturing.

About the team
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to un-served and under-served communities around the world.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent- 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience with CAD Design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T
- 1+ years of experience of structural analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis
- 1+ years of experience with project management, schedule, and budgeting
Extended Qualifications
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume- Strong background in the design of mechanism, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Design analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.
- Experience designing tooling for aerospace hardware
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in assembly tooling
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations
- Experience with NX 3D modeling package and Simcenter 3D FEA simulation.
- Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, 55, Six Sigma, etc.) a plus
- Cross-organizational communication in both verbal and written forms.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
