Location: Seattle, WA
Description
Amazon is seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager to join the team that owns Amazon's most critical infrastructure efficiency and region flexibility programs. You will drive initiatives that span petabyte-scale memory optimization, multi-region capacity balancing across global datacenters, and architectural changes that enable Amazon's services to operate resiliently and efficiently across AWS regions. The scope is broad: enabling services to break region coupling for improved blast radius containment, driving capacity reduction programs that directly shape Amazon's datacenter investment strategy, building fleet intelligence platforms that power data-driven optimization across hundreds of engineering teams, and applying agentic AI to automate infrastructure optimization at scale (from autonomous code-level performance improvements to AI-driven capacity recommendations).
As a Principal TPM, you will define multi-year program strategy, build the mechanisms that drive execution across hundreds of engineering teams, and own the narrative to the most senior levels of leadership. You'll operate in deep ambiguity, translating infrastructure goals into concrete fleet-level outcomes, making trade-off decisions that balance cost efficiency against service resilience and customer latency, and influencing engineering leaders across organizational boundaries without direct authority. This is a hands-on role: you will dig into technical details, work directly with data and systems, prototype solutions, and personally drive execution rather than delegating from a distance.
This role requires someone who combines deep technical judgment in distributed systems and infrastructure with the ability to operate at SVP and CEO-level strategy, someone who can architect a campaign mechanism that moves hundreds of teams, author the executive document that secures investment for it, and roll up their sleeves to unblock execution when needed.
Key job responsibilities
* Define and own multi-year program strategy and roadmaps for infrastructure efficiency and region flexibility initiatives spanning multiple AWS regions, hundreds of engineering teams, and thousands of services
* Partner with senior engineering leaders and project sponsors to deliver complex cross-functional programs that require fundamental architectural changes across Amazon's software stack
* Build mechanisms that scale execution (intake processes, campaign frameworks, escalation paths, and automation triggers) and iterate on them as programs mature
* Drive adoption of agentic AI capabilities to automate fleet optimization at scale, from autonomous code-level performance improvements to AI-driven capacity recommendations that reduce manual engineering effort across hundreds of teams
* Provide clear, concise communication to senior leadership and stakeholders on program status, risks, and strategic trade-offs through executive documents and program reviews
* Guide engineering teams on architecture, design, and prioritization decisions that balance cost efficiency, service resilience, and customer latency
* Build relationships across Amazon and AWS to leverage existing infrastructure capabilities, promote team initiatives, and influence organizational roadmaps without direct authority
* Manage risk assessment, escalations, and trade-offs between competing business needs, technical constraints, and timeline pressures at scale
* Leverage fleet intelligence platforms and AI-powered optimization agents to identify savings opportunities, prioritize campaigns, and measure outcomes with data-driven rigor
* Mentor and raise the bar for technical program managers in the broader organization
About the team
The Region Flexibility and Efficiency (RFE) organization drives the optimization and resilience of Amazon's global infrastructure. We own programs that shape how Amazon operates across AWS regions, from enabling services to run flexibly across regions to driving petabyte-scale efficiency improvements that directly influence Amazon's infrastructure investment decisions.
Our portfolio spans infrastructure optimization programs, multi-region capacity strategy, fleet intelligence platforms, and agentic AI capabilities that automate performance improvements across hundreds of engineering teams. We support Amazon businesses including Stores, Prime Video, Alexa, and Kindle, and partner closely with AWS teams to improve both internal capabilities and public offerings.
This is a small, high-leverage team where individual contributors have direct impact at the highest levels of leadership. We value technical depth, hands-on execution, and the ability to operate across organizational boundaries. With millions of customers depending on Amazon's infrastructure every day, we build solutions that are robust, scalable, and designed to "just work" at Amazon's full scale.
