Description
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
This TPM will support Kuiper Production's Engineering Change Control (ECC) process. This complex value stream manages how engineering changes are reviewed and implemented across multiple operational areas including procurement, finance, GSE, production, warehouse, flight design, and launch operations. The role is based in Redmond, WA
A successful candidate should be equally comfortable collaborating on process improvements, automation projects, data collection/analysis or negotiating new requirements with design engineers. Your proven track record of managing projects and leading rapid investigation initiatives will be key to your success in this role. Your experience managing cross-functional initiatives across manufacturing and design engineering will allow you to be the voice of production in impact assessment and implementation execution reviews.
Key job responsibilities
The scale and complexity of engineering change management into production demands coordinated activities across both daily urgent activities (immediate changes in reaction to quality/engineering gaps) and long-term strategic initiatives (implementing new assembly block versions into production). As an adept of "working yourself out of a job" this TPM will be responsible to lead the critical process and tool improvements (automation, validation, PLM software) required to seamlessly integrate engineering changes into production.
Job responsibilities include:
- Lead (single threaded ownership) a program managing the design changes coordination’s with manufacturing and operations.
- Coordinate the impact assessment, review and implementation of changes being cut-in/reworked and resulting in production interruptions/slow-downs through cross-function teams.
- Manage the single source of truth for schedule developed with the stakeholders for production and operations.
- Own cross-functional weekly cross-functional meetings to coordinate change activities in production.
- Coordination of improvements to configurations control, manufacturing system, ERP tooling in order to automate and streamline change implementation process.
- Identify improvement opportunities with operational stakeholders to eliminate schedule disruptions and/or reduce data defects.

This role will be highly collaborative, requiring partnerships with cross-functional leaders to drive positive results. This role requires ability to advocate on behalf of our customers (internal and external) and an ability to push back without being adversarial.

About the team
The Operations Command Center (OCC) team is the Kuiper Production Operations Integrated program management function that enables successful production scaling. The vision of OCC team is to enable success of end-to-end Kuiper operations team by proactively developing systems, processes, mechanisms, and tools that are required to detect issues, expose root cause, validate improvements, maintain controls, and drive operational rhythms.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent- 6+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 3+ years experience in aerospace engineering, industrial engineering, operations management or equivalent
- 3+ years leading continuous improvement initiatives, managing operations, or a related role within the manufacturing, fulfillment or testing organization driving automation, LEAN/Six Sigma, 5S initiatives.
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.
- High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
Extended Qualifications
- 8+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience- Masters degree in engineering (aerospace, aviation, computer science, electrical, electronics, industrial) or business administration.
- Experience working in the aerospace or aviation industry
- 2+ years leading continuous improvement initiatives, managing operations, or a related role within the manufacturing, fulfillment or testing organization driving automation, LEAN/Six Sigma, 5S initiatives.
- 2+ years managing the development of mechanical hardware OR developing software to drive automation OR developing electrical systems
- Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution system (MES) software.
- Lean/Six Sigma certification (black belt)
- Experience owning cross-functional program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership (up to VP level)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
