Description
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud scaling. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of project manager, design and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
If you enjoy being at the forefront of industry growth and development, operating in a highly ambiguous, rapidly growing environment, driving long-range growth in support of an evolving business strategy, and working across teams to solve challenges and remove obstacles, then this is the role for you.
The AWS Non-Standard Infrastructure Global Delivery Team has an immediate opening for an Technical Infrastructure Program Manager to execute non-standard infrastructure capacity planning and delivery across multiple AWS regions. You will lead cross-functional teams to drive the development and implementation of completed designs and develop and document requirements, budgets, and project schedules to drive timely infrastructure delivery; drive improvements to the health of the fleet; and make data-driven decisions that influence large capital investments. Your role will span strategic planning for complex, multi-year capacity delivery and capital improvement initiatives, working with local teams to plan, initiate, and execute specific projects, and drive coordination of local efforts to implement global fleet optimization activities across the region. You will work across the entire AWS organization and partner with key stakeholders and partner teams to find solutions for both short- and long-range demand plans, address short- and long-term capacity constraints, and drive projects from conceptual feasibility through development of detailed technical requirements, budget approval, completed design, implementation, functional testing, and deployment. Finally, you will drive accountability across the Infrastructure organization and develop mechanisms to monitor the health of the capacity delivery and sustainment program, escalating issues to executive leadership as needed.
This role offers an opportunity to drive and influence business-critical decisions impacting the long-term future of AWS, working at the leading edge of emerging capability and service offerings. The Candidate must be comfortable managing remote project teams delivering novel and sometimes pioneering solutions across multiple countries and time-zones; assessing, identifying, and mitigating downstream risk; troubleshooting unforeseen and time-critical implementation issues as they arise; removing bureaucratic barriers to project success; and dealing with persistent uncertainty, pitfalls, and change. Being able to build and manage cross-functional matrixed teams, establish trust with a variety of internal customers and stakeholders, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, remove blockers, and find creative ways to accelerate project delivery is a must. Most importantly, the Candidate must be able to act independently, using good judgement to drive timely decision making and deliver high-quality results.
Key job responsibilities
Responsibilities Include:
• Execute demand planning processes resulting in strategic alignment across multiple stakeholders to develop infrastructure capacity plans for the acquisition of infrastructure space and power
• Work with AWS service leadership and other stakeholders to gather requirements and build a roadmap for non-standard product supply planning, and integrate non-standard supply needs into cluster capacity supply strategies
• Work with regional planning, design, and field engineering teams to facilitate site selection and qualification as well as inform build planning and execution activities
• Manage the planning and delivery of non-standard AWS infrastructure
• Solve problems and remove blockers to timely capacity delivery
• Identify opportunities to invent and simplify processes, identifying business risks and implementing resolutions and scalable mechanisms
• Communicate ideas to a wide variety of stakeholders for purposes ranging from informative to need for approvals from executives
A day in the life
Its different day-to-day, but generally you will engage with local project teams to plan, execute, and monitor build projects; work with finance and procurement teams to fund and purchase equipment and materials; look downstream to identify risks to schedule and cost; work with partner teams to identify opportunities to deliver capacity better, faster, cheaper without diminishing quality or increasing schedule risk; and working with customer teams to plan more effectively for the future.
