Description

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirements: Due to the need to access certain federal controlled information, you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.

Seeking an experienced Technical Infrastructure Operations Manager to lead operational teams across multiple Kuiper facilities. This role combines strategic infrastructure planning with hands-on technical leadership, managing both engineers and managers while ensuring continuous operations support.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead and develop teams of system engineers, IT Support engineers, and managers across multiple shifts in 24x7 manufacturing, warehousing, mission operations environments, launch facilities, government solutions facilities

• Own end-to-end device lifecycle management including standardization, procurement, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning

• Oversee rack infrastructure from design through implementation, including vendor management and contract manufacturer relationships

• Manage comprehensive inventory tracking across multiple facilities

• Direct smart hands operations supporting network infrastructure teams

• Lead end-user support operations for workplace technology (laptops, iPads) and applications

• Develop and implement standard operating procedures for system deployment and maintenance

• Drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency and system reliability

• Drive change control best practices

A day in the life

You start the day with reviewing critical incidents from the overnight shift at your primary manufacturing facility. After addressing immediate concerns, you lead the morning operations handoff meeting, ensuring smooth transition between shifts and alignment on key priorities. While reviewing deployment plans for new rack installations at a contract manufacturer site, you're simultaneously managing an escalation about production line systems requiring urgent patches. During team meetings, you discuss performance metrics and resource allocation across facilities. Strategic planning sessions for upcoming facility expansions are balanced with vendor negotiations for new hardware standards. A production floor walk allows you to observe recent rack installations and mentor junior engineers on best practices. The afternoon involves coordinating with network teams on infrastructure upgrades and reviewing inventory forecasts for the next quarter. Your day might extend into evening hours for maintenance window oversight or supporting cross-timezone collaboration with contract manufacturers. Throughout the day, you're balancing immediate operational needs with longer-term strategic initiatives, while remaining available for critical escalations from any of the facilities. The role requires constant prioritization between people management, technical oversight, and strategic planning - no two days are exactly alike in this dynamic manufacturing environment.
