Description
Amazon Photos is looking for a System Development Engineer to build solutions to complex problems within our internal systems. You will ensure that engineering best practices are followed, and that the systems you build are reliable, scalable, and maintainable. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely across multiple teams in Amazon Photos and beyond, spanning engineering, technical design, and our legal partners. You will serve as a role model and mentor other engineers on the team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where innovation is encouraged.Who we are looking for: You are an experienced System Development Engineer who has delivered great software. You embrace automation, and you have experience in automating processes that scale with the needs of the business. You have experience with infrastructure scalability and end-to-end deployment processes, including builds, testing, and final release. You are flexible and willing to build systems spanning multiple areas of influence, from internal tooling designed to help teams become more scalable and resilient, to systems that provide worldwide regulatory compliance and ensure the trust and safety of our customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy internal tooling to designed to help partner teams become more scalable and resilient
- Design, develop and deploy systems ensuring regulatory compliance in the places we do business
- Design, develop, and deploy systems that ensure the trust and safety of our customers
- Write clean, maintainable code, and review code from your peers;
- Work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technologies and evaluate technical feasibility of solutions.
- Analyze and optimize systems to maximize speed and scale
- Improve Operational Excellence including latency and scalability.
- Help define standards, implement them, and promote best practices for your team.
- Collaborate with product managers, legal partners, and partner teams to develop requirements to solve ambiguous problems, driving those requirements to completion.
About the team
Amazon Photos helps consumers preserve, organize, share, and relive their memories. The service comes with unlimited photo storage for Prime members with apps available on iOS, Android, Web, Desktop. The service is also integrated into Alexa devices such as Echo Show and Fire TV. We have ambitious goals to scale growth and adoption of the service around the world and delight our customers with a great memories product.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
Extended Qualifications
- Experience with distributed systems at scale- Knowledge of database systems and SQL
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
