Description
We're seeking a Chief of Staff for Amazon Devices - Emerging Products team. Amazon Devices (Lab126) began with the Kindle E-reader, and now invents & develops products like Fire tablets, Fire TV, Echo smart speakers, Echo Show smart displays, the Amazon Glow projector, Echo Frames smart audio glasses, and the Amazon Astro robot.This role serves as strategic partner to the Vice President and their executive leadership team, with the primary goal of helping shape the strategy of the organization and enabling the organization to scale behind its long-term vision. The role blends strategic, programmatic, and operational responsibilities, requiring switching between macro-level, strategic-thinking and micro-level project management. The role is inherently cross-functional with significant exposure to senior leaders across the Devices organization.
Key job responsibilities
- Work with the Leadership Team to translate our vision into strategies, goals, mechanisms, and tactics.
- Identify and work to resolve areas of strategic misalignment. Proactively engage across business functions and teams to discover areas that may be operating in silos and missing a bigger picture, lack a clear single owner, or lack a cohesive strategy, resulting in missed opportunity for Amazon and/or our customers. Dive in, build context and history, understand the landscape and opportunity, gather data and ideas, document a clear strategy or recommendations, with input from leaders across organizational boundaries, and drive through to cross-org alignment.
- Build and execute upon a review structure of high priority workstreams, ensuring a sensible cadence, coaching on pre-reads, tracking of action items, and dissemination of outcomes.
- Build and execute upon a rhythm of the business that forecasts organization-wide events and community plans to organization leaders.
- Operate as the in-depth subject-matter expert of headcount and operational expenses for the organization. Lead its annual budget planning process, in partnership with business, HR and Finance stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel 20-30% of the time.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of technical product or program management experience- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 10+ years of product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology experience
- Experience blending product and program management skills to execute strategic initiatives about process creation, standardization, and improvement
- Bachelor's degree
- Has experience driving the strategic planning process
Extended Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on work managing complex technology projects experience- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
- Has high ownership and is comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity
- Strong communicator with a structured and methodical approach to solving complex problems
- Has strong ‘learn and be curious’ with a willingness to get involved in any and all areas of the business

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $159,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $275,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
