Description

The Amazon Fresh Private Brands team is looking for an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Specification Technologist Manager passionate about food & beverage products. You will join a dynamic, fast-paced, fun and collaborative work environment where you will help build and scale our business within both physical stores and online channels.

This role ensures that AFPB technical specifications document quality, safety, and regulatory requirements for all products and are maintained throughout the product lifecycle. You will be expected to work effectively with AFPB suppliers and partnering with internal stakeholders including Product Management, Product Operations, Product Development, Food Safety, Regulatory, Social Responsibility Compliance, and Sustainability Compliance to ensure specification completion and maintenance to standards.

This position will focus on the creation, approval, and finalization of product technical specifications for new product development as well as managing change management mechanisms connected to post launch activities (rebranding, specification changes, supplier site changes, and annual specification verification activities). This position will lead our specification database management which includes ensuring database is current to business needs (e.g., specification template updates as connected to regulatory, quality, safety, sustainability updates) and process optimization activities (tool functionality, workflow optimization). The position will require resourcefulness and creativity to learn new product categories for all food & beverage products, working in and improving database tools (specification management), and identify opportunities to drive tool improvements (functionality, data management & reporting).

The right person for this role must be detail oriented, enjoy working with suppliers and partnering with stakeholders to develop and ensure product specifications that ensure product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance and also that ensure product consistency in the marketplace. The candidate should understand product development workflows, importance of product specifications on customer trust in brands and products, and enjoys working with stakeholders to hold a high bar for our specification management program. The successful candidate will have strong attention to details, good problem-solving skills, a strong vision for quality standards and programs, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written) with technical and non-technical teams alike, and be motivated by a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Key job responsibilities

- Owns the creation and finalization of product technical specifications (including data entry, stakeholder management).

- Leads specification and database optimization optimizations (with key stakeholder input).

- Manages the implementation and execution of change management requests.

- Ability to work within project management tools and ensure specification tasks are closed to defined timelines.

- Ability to identify and troubleshoot inconsistencies within specifications and work with stakeholders to drive solutions.

- Ability to navigate roadblocks and work with stakeholders and suppliers to drive solutions without compromising on product safety, compliance, or customer satisfaction.

- Supports specification reporting needs (sustainability, regulatory, legal).

- Define quality KPIs and develop mechanisms or dashboards to track and report specification compliance metrics.

- Build process flows, SOPs, and define and align on RACI for specification management activities.

- Identify opportunities to improve or optimize our operations, mitigate repeat issues, develop guardrails to simplify decision making, utilize automation, drive process efficiencies, and potential cost savings opportunities.

A day in the life

Your day will typically begin with supporting project workflow tasks associated with the management of product specifications and supplier sites (new product development, rebranding, change management initiatives). This role works closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure we have robust and accurate product specifications for all our food & beverage products and also supporting mechanisms to maintain those standards. You will work collaboratively with Product Development, Food Safety, and Product Management teams on key projects, process improvements, optimization of specification management tools, as well as help drive the quality culture in the organization. Throughout the day, you'll serve as the go-to expert for specification-related questions and guide stakeholders through various documentation processes.

Qualifications

- 3+ years of product management experience

- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Engineering, or related field

- 3+ years of experience in food & beverage business (product development, specification management)

- Proven track record for cultivating strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

- Strong analytical skills including the ability to distill, synthesize, and draw conclusions on large amounts of data.

- Strong attention to detail, who puts high value in assuring accuracy in documentation.

- Experience managing change management activities.

- Excellent communicator (written, oral, presentation).

- Demonstrated ability to write clear and effective written communication.

- Proven ability to effectively communicate technical details and requirements with non-technical team members.

- Demonstrated ability to own projects, think big, act quickly, and influence across all levels of an organization.

- Ability to drive decisions under time pressure without compromising safety or compliance of products.

- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization/time management, ability to re-prioritize quickly, and problem-solving skills.

- Experience building process flow maps, SOPs, and define/align RACIs across internal and external stakeholders.

- Proficient with using Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Visio or equivalent tools.



Extended Qualifications

- Knowledge of SQL and VBA at an advanced level

- Experience building and analyzing cost/benefit scenarios and business cases and communicating results throughout the organization

- Diversified experience with entire product lifecycle and supply chain (R&D, scale-up, site auditing, manufacturing of food & beverage products, product development, material sourcing, operations management, customer feedback management)

- Experience leading kaizens to address process optimization across the organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $179,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
