This position is part of the AWS Specialist and Partner Organization (ASP). Specialists own the end-to-end go-to-market strategy for their respective technology domains, providing the business and technical expertise to help our customers succeed. Partner teams own the strategy, recruiting, development, and growth of our key technology and consulting partners. Together they provide our customers with the expertise and scale needed to build innovative solutions for their most complex challenges.

AWS has a diverse databases portfolio of services. In this role, as a Principal Solutions Architect, you will:

- Promote technical readiness and capability of database services by driving organizational initiatives across multiple geographies to develop and share best practices.

- Collaborate with our customer, partners, and AWS engineering teams to solve for enterprise problems like Database Migrations, or build design patterns for Cloud Native, Serverless, Mobile Backends, and Microservices based applications on the cloud.

- Engage to architect and design for our customers modernizing to build data driven applications, and drive the evolution of the AWS Services by innovating around capabilities like event logging, streaming, graph, location aware, and messaging.

- Recognize and drive opportunities to lead technical discussions in designing highly available, distributed, resilient, and globally scalable applications and data products using NoSQL technologies and frameworks.

- As a technical advisor you will guide the customer on how to optimize their workloads in the AWS.

With this role, you will have deep expertise in one or more technology domains across relational and non-relational databases. The role will allow you to focus on database technologies on AWS, including and not limited to PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Elasticache, Cassandra, Timestream, and Neptune. The role has worldwide scope, and could result in up to 25% travel.

Key job responsibilities

- Understand customer requirements and existing environments, and translate these into configurations in AWS that meet performance, scalability, and availability needs.

- Design Customer Solutions­, collaborate with AWS field, services, sales, training and support teams, to help partners and customers learn to use Amazon Databases.

- Devise Strategy ­and Engage with Solution Architects, Account Managers, Professional Services and Partners to define a Database & Analytics Engagement strategy for AWS key accounts.

- Extract best-practice knowledge, and patterns from these engagements for sharing with the worldwide AWS solutions architect community and produce customer facing reference architectures.

- Assist solution providers with the definition and implementation of technical solutions aligned with their business strategies.

- Partner with business development and account management teams in helping to ensure customer success in building and migrating applications, software and services on the AWS platform.

- Capture and share best-practice knowledge among the worldwide AWS solution architect community.

- Provide thought leadership on Database and Analytics solutions that benefit customers through the use of AWS Services. This takes the form of contribution to external publications such as the AWS DBS Blogs, technical content like white papers and Solution Reference Architectures, as well as internal training of Solutions Architects, Professional Services Consultants, Technical Account Managers, and AWS Trainers.

About the team

You will be an integral part of the AWS Worldwide Specialists Organization (WWSO), Data & AI Team for AWS Industries and Strategic Accounts. It’s a function within the AWS Specialists and Partners organization that aims to improve engineering design and AWS service adoption for our customers around the world. This group is comprised of Specialists Solution Architects (SA) with deep technical expertise in database technologies, data warehousing, and machine learning and artificial intelligence. Primary functions of the team include advising key AWS customers on how to leverage database and analytics services to solve their most challenging problems, advice on effective patterns & practices, build and publish foundational reference solution architectures, be the voice of the technical field for databases, and building a strong worldwide communities. WWSO projects bring repeatable customer value addressing recurring customer challenges, mitigating adoption blockers, influencing service roadmap, and delivering deploy-able architectures that can be used by many customers.

Qualifications

- 10+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent

- Experience developing technology solutions and evangelising end-to-end technology roadmaps that guide IT transformations toward cloud computing

- Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences and at C-level, including training, workshops, publications



Extended Qualifications

- Knowledge of distributed systems design and implementation or equivalent

- Knowledge of large scale automation and workflow management or equivalent

- Knowledge of database design and implementation or equivalent

- Knowledge of presentations and whiteboarding skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with internal and external executives, IT management, and developers

- Experience architecting, migrating, transforming or modernizing customer requirements to the cloud

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $164,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $284,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
