Description

Have you wanted an opportunity to lead a software team in an advanced satellite broadband telecom service?

This is a Software Development Manager role in Project Kuiper - Payload Network Processor Platform team, responsible for driving the research, development and deployment of the satellite payload software systems. Our software drives the hardware and firmware on the satellite to manage all radio communications between satellites and the ground gateways and customer terminals, and also provides device drivers and services for managing redundancy, operational and thermal state of the payload.

Key job responsibilities

- Lead the software engineering team for delivering embedded platform stack and applications for multi-core proprietary ASICs cluster on Kuiper satellites and ground systems hardware - low-level OS/drivers, abstraction layers, Kuiper specific customization of run-time environment and multi-Gbps I/O interfaces, telemetry, fault-tolerance, resiliency, power and thermal management.

- Hire, support and develop a team of exceptional software engineers, manage resource allocation to meet Kuiper program objectives

- Define the multi-year vision and strategy for the team with optimal cadence of milestones and deliveries to meet strategic business goals

- Own the software lifecycle of team deliverables from conceptual stage to field deployment of the Kuiper satellites and ground systems.

A day in the life

You will own the roadmap and mission for Network Processor platform software and work with your customers to refine requirements, understand constraints, hiring & growing your team and iteratively delivering value to our customers.

About the team

Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams



Extended Qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
