Description

As a Software Development Manager, you will independently manage a software development team. You are able to represent your team autonomously and require minimal guidance. You are accountable for the team’s structure, software, and strategic direction. You partner with your engineers and leadership to define a vision and tenets that communicate how your team makes decisions. You provide the larger picture, the long-term perspective, and the context (past, current, and future) behind business and technology choices. Your roadmap influences organization goals. You effectively participate in Amazon’s planning process (OP1/OP2). You evangelize our Leadership Principles.

Key job responsibilities

1) Work directly with your stakeholders and your team to define and design your teams' long term vision and tech structure.

2) Work with the latest technologies and tools and shape the vision of your tech stack - find out what it takes to engineer systems for “Amazon Scale”

3) Manage team members to help them grow

4) Drive operation excellence for the team

Propose innovative tools, frameworks, automation and processes that are used by the entire team for development



Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams



Extended Qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
