Location: Bellevue, WA

Estimated salary: $217,550
Range: $184,900 - $250,200

Description

Amazon's Last Mile delivery network moves millions of packages every day and the accuracy of the maps powering that network matters at every turn. The Suggested Editing Foundations team sits at the heart of this mission, building the foundational visual geospatial data editing capabilities that power the tools used by delivery partners, dispatchers, and logistics associates to identify and correct geospatial defects in the real world.

As the Software Development Manager for Suggested Editing Foundations, you will lead a team of 8 talented engineers building and scaling the core platform that underpins GeoStudio, Amazon's geospatial editing suite, and the broader ecosystem of tools that depend on it. You will own systems that generate millions of rendered map tile assets, serve geospatial data to clients at scale, provide reusable components adopted by partner teams across Last Mile and beyond, and an agentic AI assistant that enhances the geospatial editing experience for customers.

This is a role for an operator who enables builders: someone who creates the conditions for a high-performing team to do their best work, removes friction, drives technical clarity, and ensures the team delivers with quality and velocity.

What You'll Own

You will have end-to-end ownership of a portfolio of systems that are foundational to Amazon's geospatial editing capabilities:

- GeoStudio and GeoStudio Components: The primary map editing experience used by DSPs and dispatchers to action on transporter-reported geospatial defects, now expanding to new teams and global markets

- GeoStudio Web SDK and Visual Maps Web SDK: Reusable SDKs enabling partner teams to build geospatial editing and visualization experiences across web and mobile

- GeoStudio Assistant: An agentic AI assistant integrated directly into GeoStudio, leveraging large language models to enhance the map editing experience for customers and streamline how users interact with geospatial data

- GeoStudio Backend: Backend services supporting the editing workflow and powering the GeoStudio platform

- Tile Generation and Stylesheets: Systems that conflate multiple map data sources with editor-contributed data to generate millions of rendered map tile assets consumed by every Last Mile associate who uses a map

- Scalable Tier-1 Infrastructure: High-availability APIs and data services enabling clients to fetch geospatial data reliably from multiple sources

Key job responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, setting clear performance expectations, providing actionable feedback, and supporting career development. Build an inclusive, high-trust environment where engineers take ownership and make decisions.

- Own and drive the technical roadmap for Suggested Editing Foundations, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform investments. Lead the evolution of GeoStudio into a broadly adopted platform serving partner teams across Last Mile and globally. Make sound architectural decisions across a diverse portfolio spanning agentic AI interfaces, scalable backend services, tile generation pipelines, and reusable frontend SDKs.

- Drive end-to-end delivery of complex engineering projects with clear milestones and measurable outcomes. Maintain a high bar for engineering quality, reliability, and operational excellence across Tier-1 services.

- Build strong working relationships with partner teams across the Geospatial organization, Field Collection Experience, Field Signal Intelligence, and LMAQ. Communicate technical strategy and risks clearly to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.

- Expand GeoStudio's reach to new teams and global markets. Ensure the GeoStudio Assistant delivers a high-quality, reliable AI-powered experience for customers. Champion reusable components, SDKs, and APIs that accelerate delivery across the Last Mile technology ecosystem.

A day in the life

- Lead, grow, and develop a team of SDEs, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement

- Drive the technical roadmap for scaling GeoStudio from a focused editing tool to a platform adopted by partner teams across Last Mile and globally

- Partner closely with teams across the Geospatial organization, Field Collection Experience, Field Signal Intelligence, and Last Mile Analytics and Quality (LMAQ) to align on shared platform direction and deliver integrated solutions

- Own the architecture and delivery of scalable backend systems, tile generation pipelines, reusable frontend component libraries, and AI-powered customer-facing features

- Translate ambiguous business and product requirements into clear engineering plans with well-defined milestones and measurable outcomes

- Establish and uphold engineering standards for reliability, scalability, and operational excellence across Tier-1 services

- Represent your team in cross-functional technical forums and influence the broader geospatial platform strategy

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
