Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Leo Software Defined Networking (SDN) team will design, implement and operate the network virtualization stack and SDN control plane signaling. Our scope spans over beam planning, routing and forwarding through our SDN Controller, Agents, and Applications that provides a high throughput telecom service comprised of Low Earth Orbit satellites, customer terminals, gateways, Cloud services and terrestrial network infrastructure that connects into public and private networks.

We are looking for a dynamic leader and owner to build out our Skynet Operations team for an advanced global telecom service via both space and terrestrial networks. As the manager of this team, you will lead a mix of network engineers and software engineers to develop novel mechanisms that increase our end-to-end observability tools deliver high quality, secure and fault tolerant software used in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, ground Gateways, and Consumer/Enterprise class Customer Terminals. You will define the long-term vision for the team and its products as well as defining the team structure needed to achieve it. The candidate must have expertise with modern development practices and network operations and will have demonstrated the capability to deliver best-in-class software systems that solve some of today's hardest problems.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

- Hire, support and develop a team of exceptional software developers for the Skynet Operations team

- Define the multi-year vision and strategy for the team

- Lead software and network engineer to that will help cross-organizational teams efficiently troubleshoot the network across challenging mobile, space and terrestrial environments.

- Manage and monitor our KPIs for the Leo Networking Service

- Manage the software lifecycle of your deliverables from concept to operations

A day in the life

You will collaborate with various stakeholders to create the world’s most innovative products. You will understand operational challenges and existing blind-spots for network network observability and lead a team of engineers to develop tools that fill these gaps. You will lead our development and integration efforts and planning on prototypes and production environments.

Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of engineering experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams



Extended Qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
