We're looking for software development manager to lead a team of talented engineers that solve real world problems on a global scale, own their systems end-to-end and influence the direction of our technology that impacts hundreds of millions customers around the world. Joining AWS Traffic Engineering offers you the opportunity to lead a diverse, deeply technical team building secure, reliable, and scalable features that help AWS services to be more resilient.
You will have the opportunity to drive mission critical projects, work with senior and principal engineers and mentor junior level developers. You will get to build a throttling software system that all foundational products at AWS rely on for their service protection needs.
A successful candidate is experienced in leading a team of deeply technical engineers. You, the candidate, must have proven skills as a leader that delivers on business objectives, prioritizes work, and influences partner teams. You will establish goals for your team and focus attention on the most important inputs to drive the desired business outcomes. You know how to grow the team by hiring, investing in people, and developing talent from within. AWS Throttling operates at large scale and enables customers to build high availability systems world-wide, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (related field) or equivalent work experience
- 6+ years of relevant experience architecting fault tolerant and high available systems
- 3+ years of relevant experience owning 24x7x365 service operations
Extended Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience in a leadership position of a team delivering solutions at scale
- Experience building complex distributed software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
- Masters or equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of relevant software development and engineering management experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
