This is a strategic opportunity to own a foundational element of Amazon's shopping experience.About the Role: We're seeking an exceptional Software Development Manager to lead our Worldwide Reference Pricing team. You'll own the systems that compute and display reference prices—the crucial anchor points that help customers understand the value of their purchases. Your work will directly impact customer trust and purchasing decisions across Amazon's global marketplaces.
This role sits at the intersection of customer experience, data science, and large-scale systems engineering—offering a unique opportunity to shape how millions of customers perceive value on one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms.
Key job responsibilities
Your Impact:
- Own and evolve the core systems that compute reference prices, including List Price and "Typical" price based on pricing data
- Lead the transformation of reference pricing into the AI-centric shopping era, expanding from "strike-through prices" to communicating price quality across all products
- Build and mentor a team of engineers developing high-scale systems that aggregate and vend pricing data
- Partner with key internal teams (Promotions, UX, etc.) to create a cohesive customer experience that builds trust in Amazon's pricing
A day in the life
What You'll Do:
- Drive technical strategy and roadmap for reference pricing systems used by millions of customers daily
- Lead architectural decisions for systems that process massive datasets of product pricing information
- Mentor and grow engineering talent while fostering a culture of innovation
- Collaborate with product, research, and UX teams to develop data-driven pricing communication strategies
- Expand reference pricing capabilities to support emerging AI-centric shopping experiences
Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Bachelors Degree
Extended Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience leading teams that own big data pipelines

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
