What does Tech Spine, the hiring team, do?
The Tech Spine team within Amazon Advertising is building the next generation of products and services that will fuel the growth of Amazon’s advertising business. We own the Publisher-facing horizontal infrastructure for critical services our Publishers use daily to monetize their on-demand, streaming, and static placements across Amazon’s ad network in a few clicks. Publishers interact directly with our platform, through programmatic APIs and using our storage solutions and get enterprise-grade access to optimize billions of impression opportunities per day.
What is the Tech Spine team looking for?
We seek a Software Development Manager (SDM) to expand our suite of experiences as we grow to become the best Advertising Supply Technologies on the market. You will partner with our customers, Product Managers, Senior and Principal Engineers, and teams across Ads to design, implement, evaluate and improve our architecture. As a Software Development Manager for a suite of APIs, services, and infrastructure that provide the administrative and control interface for Publisher Technologies.
If I were hired, what would I be working on?
This is a rare opportunity to start a develop and maintain a new set of services at Amazon. You will be a foundational member of the team that builds services to grow and scale infrastructure for the Amazon Supply-Side Technologies in Advertising. You’ll work with customer and product owners to scope, design, implement, test and launch new experiences and features to simplify, automate, and reduce the effort to recognize and find the perfect audiences for our publishers. While we have been around for about 3 years, we are still growing our service suite, working through architecture and talking with our customers and partners to set a bold vision focused on ease of use, scaling and developer agility. You will be a critical decision-maker for the technologies, architecture, and tools we use to build, test, and deploy our publisher experiences. You will put your architecture and designs ideas into practice to delight our customers.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Extended Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
