We're seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to join our Alexa International team in our mission to create the world's most versatile and culturally adept digital assistant.In this role, you'll oversee multiple backend services that are fundamental to delivering personalized, culturally appropriate experiences for our international customers. Your leadership will be instrumental in enhancing Alexa's natural language understanding across languages, improving cross-lingual customer experience, and ensuring seamless integration of local content and services. Key job responsibilities
Hiring, developing, and mentoring engineers, and managing the day-to-day activities of the engineering team in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Work closely with the engineers and scientists to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
Owning the strategic planning and project management for long-term engineering projects, creating value for our customers.
Communicating effectively with senior management as well as with colleagues from software engineering teams, and other technical and business teams
A day in the life
You will lead the software development lifecycle for enterprise-scale solutions, from initial architecture through production deployment. Your responsibilities include feature prioritization, technical design, and quality assurance. Success in this role requires experience building teams that deliver scalable, global software systems while maintaining our dual commitment to customer satisfaction and engineering excellence.

Alexa International Tech is dedicated to expanding Alexa's global footprint through innovative technology solutions. We enable Alexa to speak more languages, understand diverse cultural contexts, and deliver locally relevant experiences worldwide. Our team builds and maintains critical infrastructure and tools that power international expansion, while also developing unique features specifically designed for global audiences. We work closely with teams across Amazon to ensure Alexa provides delightful, culturally appropriate experiences to customers around the world.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Extended Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
