TrafficShift is a service within the Global Connectivity and Network Availability organisation. Global Connectivity is the border network that provides secure, highly available, low-cost, and performant connectivity to and from everywhere in the world for AWS; and Network Availability that provides the services that detect, alarm, correlate and mitigate every kind of network impairment to provide availability for the AWS network that is indistinguishable from perfect.

TrafficShift is a networking service that is foundational to the success the AWS network availability engineering. The TrafficShift service enables fast event mitigation and safe deployment configuration updates and operating system upgrades to the global Amazon network.

Key job responsibilities

As an SDE II in TrafficShift, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining AWS's foundational networking service that enables rapid event mitigation and safe deployment of configuration updates across Amazon's global network infrastructure.

-You will design and implement significant components and features that ensure network reliability, working within the Global Connectivity and Network Availability organization.

-This role requires strong technical expertise in distributed systems and programming, as you'll be responsible for creating performant, stable, and maintainable solutions that scale across AWS's worldwide infrastructure.

-You will collaborate with network engineers and various stakeholders, participate in architectural discussions, mentor junior team members, and contribute to operational excellence through code reviews, system optimization, and best practices implementation.

-The ideal candidate should be able to make pragmatic technical decisions, balance customer requirements with team needs, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills while maintaining AWS's high standards for reliability and performance.

Qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations



Extended Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

- 3+ years of contributing to new and current systems architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience

- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
