The Solutions Engineering (SE) team engages on all aspects of high-level support for the control systems within every Amazon building globally. This work takes the form of direct field engagement for launch and existing facilities, commissioning, on-call, continuous improvement, change management, project management, training, security, infrastructure and systems administration. Within SE, each manager leads a technical pillar to provide a single point of contact for large-scale initiatives divided by vendor(s) and geographic region. In this role, you will hire and develop a team of engineers working directly with a wide number of stakeholder teams, to maximize the performance, availability and quality of the technologies in your pillar. To accomplish this, you will drive strategic partnerships with key stakeholders including Operations, RME, Process Engineering, Operations Engineering, World-Wide Design and other engineering entities. Your team delivers robust lifecycle management approaches, that are scalable, reduce manual work and overall reduce the cost of ownership of the systems you support. You will deliver this through the use of statistics and data analytics, structured problem solving, implementation of global support mechanisms, system performance monitoring tools, identification and dissemination of best practices. In this role, you will develop and implement standard operating procedures, optimal code/parameter sets, performance metrics, and feedback mechanisms to ensure reliability and operational efficiency of our equipment.
Key job responsibilities
- Hire and develop a team of engineers that will partner with RME to maximize the performance of our control systems.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures, performance metrics, and feedback mechanisms for your team’s technologies.
- Develop metrics and proactive monitoring tools to measure the reliability and performance of systems as well as measure success of support mechanisms.
- Build an effective working relationship with key stakeholders and engineering leaders supporting Amazon Operations
- Identify, analyze and resolve reliability, availability and maintainability issues across your technical pillar.
- Produce periodic reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) on your team’s work and performance.
- Write effective narratives and present them to Sr. Managers and Directors.
- Travel up to 75% of the time.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field- Knowledge and/or working experience with statistical analysis tools, data visualization, and program management
- 2+ years’ experience leading engineering teams.
- Experience leading disciplined technical problem-solving. Demonstrated experience with IEC 61131-3 languages, common material handling applications and intralogistics concepts.
- Experience interpreting, modifying and developing mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Familiarity with programming software/environments including Studio 5000, TIA, Ignition, SOPAS, Dataman and other controls software platforms.
- Experience with written and oral communications for technical and non-technical audiences, with the ability to discuss complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously through delegation.
Extended Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
- Experience with AWS platforms, services, and design patterns
- 3+ years of customer-facing environment experience
- Experience Experienced with end-to-end ownership of major project deliverables
- 5+ years of experience designing and supporting control systems.
- Experience creating training and technical documentation.
- Experience with handling large data sets and developing visualization tools using Tableau or Minitab.
- Familiarity with reliability concepts, automation industry trends, and design for supportability.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
