Description
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and under-served communities around the world. The Propulsion Group is seeking a Lab Engineer to support the production line for flight hardware test deliverables.The Propulsion Test Lab Engineer will work within the Kuiper Propulsion Team in the operation and optimization of electric propulsion test infrastructure and processes. This person will support test capabilities for a variety of different propulsion subsystems, including feed systems, thrusters, cathodes, PCBA's, tanks, as well as the integrated propulsion system.
The Test Lab Engineer will support the optimization and maintenance of test infrastructure and execution processes as they transition test capabilities towards achieving higher production rates. They will develop and own processes which impact the daily production test workflows and diagnose and solve test issues in order to ensure production operations proceed efficiently. They will work with responsible engineers to develop test hardware and software improvements, and coordinate training of Test Operators on developed processes.
Key job responsibilities
- Define standard operating procedures for test equipment changes and maintenance processes
- Contribute to test execution software development
- Assist in the development of test hardware, such as fixturing, harnessing, and automation
- Train operators in the execution of developed processes
- Work with test engineers to diagnose and solve test issues and improve test throughput and stability
Export Control Requirement:

A day in the life
The Propulsion Test Lab Engineer will contribute to the development of a variety of tests designed to ensure propulsion subsystems and integrated hardware meets qualification and acceptance requirements for flight. They will work closely with multiple engineering teams to identify process improvements to improve test efficiency. A successful candidate thrives in a fast paced, start-up like environment and is able to apply their technical expertise and commitment to quality to positively impact organization goals. To be successful they will need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing the highest standards of execution.
About the team
The Kuiper Propulsion Team is responsible for the design and development of the propulsion system which provides maneuvering capability to the spacecraft. The Propulsion Team is made up of a variety of sub-teams which are responsible for various aspects of the development process, such as mechanical design, systems engineering, subject matter experts, manufacturing, and test. This integrated team structure allows direct communication and rapid process feedback while also promoting close collaboration across the team.
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience- 2+ years of relevant hardware testing experience
- 2+ years of hands-on work experience with electronic test equipment such as data acquisition devices, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and power supplies
- 2+ years of experience developing test software or processes
- 2+ years of experience contributing to test documentation and procedures
Extended Qualifications
- Experience testing aerospace hardware- Experience working with vacuum and/or pressurized gas systems
- Experience in a fast-paced production environment
- Experience with test execution software such as TestStand, LabView, and Python
- Experience with testing of production hardware designed for space environments
- Experience building up test racks and infrastructure
- Experience working with FOD, ESD sensitive hardware and clean room requirements
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $73,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $165,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
