Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
We're looking for a Senior Manager with a background in electric propulsion for spacecraft who will lead the Kuiper propulsion engineering team. The ideal candidate has experience in electric propulsion systems (Hall thrusters, ion thrusters....) and in developing mass produced aerospace hardware systems.
In this role you will lead a highly skilled team comprising experts in electric propulsion, mechanical engineering and test. Your teams will be responsible for iterative design improvements, next generation system designs and sustaining engineering support for Kuiper's propulsion production team. Teams within your group will also own definition and maintenance of propulsion system requirements, flight concept of operations and technical support to flight systems. Working alongside principal engineers you will be responsible for formulating and executing the propulsion team schedule.
You will work with teams across the broader Kuiper organization including electrical, software, reliability, analysis and operations teams.
Key job responsibilities
* Lead propulsion engineering teams including mechanical/systems engineering, propulsion analysis, test engineering, technical program management and flight operations support.
*Co-Develop propulsion team engineering roadmaps and staffing plans.
* Execute the propulsion engineering team development roadmaps.
* Iterate on team planning and make prioritization calls in response to emergent issues.
* Manage cross-team dependencies and support requests throughout the Kuiper organization.
* Write documents including business review documents, briefings and risk assessments.
* Guide the team through design and product reviews, taking responsibility for holding high and consistent standards across the team.
Qualifications
* 10+ years experience developing and/or managing teams developing spacecraft flight hardware.* 5+ years experience with spacecraft electric propulsion.
* 5+ years managing engineering teams.
* Bachelor degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics or a related field.
Extended Qualifications
* 3+ years experience with Hall Effect thrusters.* 3+ years experience with propellant management systems.
* Experience in manufacturing complex hardware systems.
* Experience with embedded software for flight systems.
* Experience with power processing units or other avionics electrical systems for aerospace applications.
* Experience conceiving and managing research and development projects.
* Experience with managing diverse teams spanning multiple fields and expertise.
* Advanced degree (M.Sc., Ph.D.) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics or a related field.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $161,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $279,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
