The Global Transportation Services team (GTS) at Amazon is comprised of high-powered dynamic teams which are shaping network execution through the development and application of innovative transportation and delivery management concepts.

We are seeking an ambitious and analytical Program Manager to join our Transportation Engineering Systems team, focusing on Rate Cards and Cost-related projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage your finance and systems expertise to optimize one of the world's largest and most complex transportation networks.

As the Program Manager for Rate Cards and Cost Projects, you will be at the intersection of finance, technology, and logistics. Your mission will be to enhance our transportation cost management and decision-making processes, directly impacting Amazon's operational efficiency and bottom line.

Key job responsibilities

Rate Card Development & Systems Integration

- Lead development and implementation of rate cards reflecting accurate middle and last-mile transportation costs

- Work with technical teams to ensure proper integration into tier-1 transportation systems

- Drive continuous improvement in rate structure implementation

Financial Analysis & Optimization:

- Partner with Finance teams to analyze transportation costs and identify optimization opportunities

- Develop models to improve shipment assignment decisions

- Measure and track cost savings initiatives

Stakeholder Management:

- Collaborate with NASC, AMZL, GTS, TESS, and Finance stakeholders to align on cost management strategies

- Work with BIEs to enhance data analytics capabilities

- Drive effective prioritization and trade-off discussions

Project Execution & Leadership:

- Define clear objectives and success metrics for cost-related initiatives

- Lead retrospective sessions and implement process improvements

- Manage stakeholder communications and project deliverables

Data-Driven Decision Making:

- Develop and maintain KPIs for transportation cost management

- Conduct trend analysis to identify optimization opportunities

- Create actionable insights from complex data sets

Success in this role requires strong financial acumen, systems thinking, and excellent stakeholder management skills. You'll drive significant impact by optimizing one of the world's largest transportation networks while working with advanced logistics systems.

A day in the life

As a Program Manager for Rate Cards and Cost Projects, your typical day might include:

- Starting with a data review, analyzing transportation cost trends and identifying any anomalies

- Leading a cross-functional meeting with Finance and Transportation teams to discuss rate card updates

- Collaborating with stakeholders to implement rate structure changes in tier-1 transportation systems

- Conducting a deep-dive analysis on a specific transportation lane to optimize shipment assignment decisions

- Preparing a presentation for leadership on the impact of recent cost optimization initiatives

- Mentoring junior analysts on transportation cost modeling techniques

- Participating in brainstorming sessions to innovate on cost reduction strategies

- Prioritizing action items and planning for upcoming project milestones

- You'll interact regularly with Finance Business Partners, Transportation Operations/Program Managers, System Engineers, and Data Scientists. Your focus will be on solving complex problems like accurately representing variable transportation costs, optimizing shipment routing decisions, and identifying opportunities for network-wide cost savings.

About the team

Amazon’s Transportation Engineering Systems Team owns the configuration of each setting in Amazon’s resource planning systems. These settings are used to provide the committed delivery date on the website “order in the next 3 hour and get it tomorrow”, and then used to plan and route every order such that we meet the commitment to our customers. Every week 1000s of changes are made as we seek to grow the business and optimize our resources.



Qualifications

- 3+ years of program or project management experience

- 3+ years of defining and implementing process improvement initiatives using data and metrics experience

- Knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookUps) at an advanced level and SQL

- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

- Experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams



Extended Qualifications

- 3+ years of driving end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership experience

- 3+ years of driving process improvements experience

- Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization

- Experience building processes, project management, and schedules

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $66,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $142,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
