Amazon Web Services is seeking a Product Design Engineering Manager to lead design development for the Electrical Solutions Product Design Engineering team. The Product Design Engineering team is a part of a global engineering team responsible for the design and operation of products used within our rapidly expanding data center foot print. This position can be based out of Austin, TX, Seattle, WA, Herndon, VA or Columbus, OH.
The Product Design Engineering team at Amazon works to design and develop resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems. As engineers at Amazon, we are responsible for achieving world class uptime for our customers. We justify and communicate the technical decisions we make to Sr. Management and work hard to drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs. The engineering team drives change and defines/designs the systems our customers rely on.

As an Engineering Manager at Amazon, you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including engineering service providers, manufacturers, vendors, inspectors, third party testing labs and contractors.
Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but shouldn’t be more than 25%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Support could consist of leading international projects and could require developing engineering packages. An understanding of international electrical design requirements is helpful but not necessary.
Key job responsibilities
Key job responsibilities
• Lead and manage the product design engineering team in developing and designing new electrical infrastructure equipment.
• Work with partner teams to understand opportunities for design improvement and manage mechanisms that align iterative design decisions.
• Collaborate with other disciplines such as Data Center engineering, reliability, QA/QC and compliance teams to create well thought out products.
• Lead creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements while delivering a return on investment and ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries.
• Lead a team working on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
• Demonstrate strong vocal leadership within the Electrical Solutions team as well as with internal and external teams that support the data center.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering• 5+ years experience leading engineering teams developing product design and certification of power distribution equipment.
• Knowledge of typical data center designs/architectures, and be following industry design trends.
• Knowledge of function and deployment of electrical infrastructure products in data center environment.
• Knowledge and able to interpret electric code NEC, NFPA, UL891, UL508, UL1066, UL1558, ANSI C37.
Extended Qualifications
• Demonstrated leadership skills managing teams.• Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally to improve products and/or processes.
• Experience with protection and control schematics and manufacturing wiring drawings.
• Experience in engineering Design for manufacturability, safety, quality and supply chain simplification.
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high-level review.
• Possess leadership and problem-solving skills, be a motivated, highly dependable individual.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $233,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
