Amazon’s network is a key differentiator for Amazon Cloud Computing and Web Services (AWS), enabling the global operation of thousands of applications across millions of servers worldwide. The AWS Networking team develops and operates the global network platform for all of Amazon, superseding a network that originally evolved using industry-standard technologies and designs. Our teams support all aspects of connectivity to/from Amazon and the outside world, as well as connectivity between Amazon’s data centers and services. .
This opportunity sits within our Backbone Network Development organization where the team is responsible for planning, developing and acquiring the fiber and optical network that underpins Amazon’s Global Infrastructure. As a Principal Infrastructure Technical Business Developer (Infra TechBD), you’ll be a technical and business leader. You’ll help establish technical standards and drive the team's overall engineering design and commercial practices. You’ll think globally when building systems, ensuring Amazon builds high performing, scalable systems that deliver on availability, latency and cost. Principal Infra TechBDs are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad; you're a subject matter expert in telecommunications, experienced with suppliers, physical network infrastructure, optical technologies and backbone network engineering. You’re hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level designs and strategies.
In this role, you will report directly to the Head of Global Backbone Network Development, and will have responsibility for our Global Planning roadmap among other key programs. You will also heavily contribute to the broader team's roadmap and technical planning, participate in investment decisions, design reviews, and represent our team to AWS leadership. You will mentor backbone planners and business developers, and grow them to embody best practices. Within the team, you will serve as a leader who helps to define the group’s priorities and vision. You will collaborate with teams within Networking and AWS to create the best-in-class solutions for our customers worldwide!
Key job responsibilities
• Serve as a key member of the Global Backbone Network Development team helping to drive overall Network Infrastructure strategy.
• Develop the roadmap for backbone planning and provide regular progress updates.
• Oversee and document the topology evolution of the backbone to achieve resiliency, and latency requirements.
• Oversee and document current and future capacity supply based on network inventory and planned network additions, identifying critical risks in our capacity plans in advance of customer impact.
• Partner with Network Engineering teams to develop capacity planning models and optimization simulations for network infrastructure.
• Partner with Network Engineering teams to establish new backbone topology standards and build them into production.
• In collaboration with engineering and business teams, develop performance metrics to ensure scaling requirements and resiliency for the network are met.
• Track overall telecoms market trends and developments in terms of vendor technologies, coverage, cost and deal structures.

Qualifications
• A Bachelor's Degree in an IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.• Candidates should have telecommunications industry experience in a similar environment.
• Candidates must have an experience in managing suppliers/customers or partners.
• Ability to create complex financial models to understand business impacts of various network solutions is required.
• Demonstrated ability to formulate data driven decisions that lead to results. Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills are critical to success in this position.
Extended Qualifications
- Experience working at a large network operator, OTT or Internet Service Provider.- Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer requirements and build strategic plans.
- Experience interacting with senior executives and other management within your own company and externally; and working across commercial, technical, domestic, and international arms of an organization
- In-depth knowledge of the latest optical communications developments.In-depth knowledge of and experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS.
- Ability to speak multiple languages.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $158,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
