We need people who want to join an ambitious program that continues to push the state of the art in space-based systems design.We are seeking a hardware engineer to join the Project Kuiper satellite power system development team. This is a hardware engineering position focused on power system verification across the full satellite product lifecycle from design phase through prototyping, manufacturing, integration/assembly, launch, and on-orbit mission operations.

Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for definition and execution of satellite power subsystem checkouts and/or tests that determine system health, performance, and functionality. You will provide engineering and technical support on satellite production testing and on-orbit mission activities. You will drive pathfinding test activities, automate repeated processes, and improve test coverage and workflow efficiency. You will work closely with a world-class team of engineers and business leaders to present technical data reviews for verification compliance and create dashboards to visualize test results and satellite health status. This will include:
- Development of interface control documentation, requirements specification, and verification matrix for space vehicle power system
- Develop test systems and test plans required to test electrical power subsystem functionality and performance over full life of space vehicle.
- Work with test engineers and system engineers to define, develop and iterate the functional test procedures used by the electrical power, solar, and battery test systems.
- Support execution of vehicle functional testing, including setup, configuration and scripting of vehicle test systems.
- Investigate failures, including issues on the device under test as well as the test system, and drive issues to resolution working with design engineers.
- Understand and implement satellite and battery safety mechanisms and processes.
A day in the life
This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position. You will be focused on verifying product and system requirements through verification testing across multiple venues including hardware in the loop testing and production acceptance testing. You will develop test processes and tools including automation which will scale test campaigns while holding a high bar for quality and test coverage. You will help manage and perform tests with satellites on-orbit and help to debug and root cause issues found in all test campaigns.
You will work with leaders in multiple engineering areas, technical staff, and highly skilled technicians on a daily basis. This is a cross-functional role requiring frequent interaction with multiple hardware and software design teams, production operations, and mission management. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve system performance, and manage non-conformances into actionable items and procedural improvements. About the team
You will be a member of the Electrical Power Systems team working within the wider Electrical Engineering organization. This highly collaborative group of engineers has a diverse range of backgrounds and knowledge and we are looking for someone to own production and mission operations for power system with our partner teams. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. We tackle problems that span a variety of domains. We are seeking excellent candidates who have a passion for aerospace systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent- 3+ years of engineering experience in one of the areas: electrical power systems, power electronics, battery, or solar.
- Experience in requirements definition, verification compliance for complex electrical systems
Extended Qualifications
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production- System test verification experience in the area of power conversion, power systems, solar, battery, electric vehicles, satellites, or rockets.
- Experience in Matlab, Python, or C/C++ to interface with test equipment and visualize results
- Experience building test automation infrastructure for hardware-in-the-loop testbeds and integrated vehicle checkouts
- Excellent skill at organizing data and communicating key requirements to teammates
- Cross-organizational communication – comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
