As a Colocation Technician in AWS, you will get to help build and maintain a Cloud Computing Infrastructure across a number of local and remote Edge locations in the Americas.
The role involves some periods working independently of your team and requires the ability to drive change while maintaining excellent communication.
Key job responsibilities
• Installation and configuration of routers, switches and DWDM hardware.
• Troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling, network installations and configuration.
• Coordinating colocation remote hands for new capacity installations.
• Coordinating colocation remote hands and eyes for any network issues.
• Resolving colocation facility issues.
• Identify, coordinate, and remediate outside plant (OSP) connectivity issues.
• Participating in small to mid-size projects creating or expanding colocation sites.
• Building relationships with remote facilities to ensure swift response times to events.
• Performing site audits to ensure safety and quality meets AWS standards.
• Improving all operational processes within each site and/or cage.
• Updating AWS tools.
• Providing status updates to stakeholders via internal tools.
• Decommissioning of cabling and network hardware in collaboration with partner teams as needed.
• Physical Requirements (all physical requirements may be done with reasonable accommodations).
• This position has a physical component requiring the ability to lift & rack equipment up to 40lbs; it may require working in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
• This role involves up to 60% travel, the vast majority is local travel but may have potential to include some including some international travel at times.

Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in delivering network projects- 2+ years of experience with optical troubleshooting, installation and deployment. Knowledge of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment, such as VFL, power meter, and OTDR.
- Work closely with our Network Engineering & Network Technical Project Manager teams to ensure fast, smooth rollout of new designs and products.
- Ability to work collaboratively, remove project obstacles, and drive initiatives with various stakeholders
Extended Qualifications
- Data Center Operations experience (racking & stacking devices, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment knowledge).- Experience in participating in on-call rotations, and providing after-hours support in an environment that operates 24/7.
- Experience with troubleshooting server devices and understanding key functions of internal outer components.
- Understanding of file systems and Operating systems such as Linux, Windows, MAC.
- Experience with storage devices
- Excellent analytical skills
- Project management skills
- Knowledge or awareness of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, COBIT)
- Operational Excellence concepts or methodologies is a plus

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $61,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $138,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
