Description
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. As a member of the Amazon Leo's Materials team, you will play a crucial role in developing advanced materials and processes that enable the cost-effective and reliable production of our satellites. You will be responsible for conducting hands-on laboratory testing and failure analysis of flight hardware and raw stock materials, as well as developing next generation materials to improve satellite performance. You will work closely with external vendors to establish process control and identify new opportunities for product development and improvement.
Qualifications
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production- Bachelor's degree in materials engineering, metallurgy, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 5 years of experience with materials selection, testing, and processing/fabrication methodologies such as casting, stamping, coating, cleaning
Extended Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in materials engineering, metallurgy, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related technical discipline- 3+ years of experience with electronic materials, magnets, contamination, composites, additive, or polymers
- Experience with statistical analysis and experimental design
- Familiarity with metallic and nonmetallic materials used in spaceflight hardware
- Experience in characterization techniques and equipment, such as SEM-EDS, FTIR, DSC, TGA, LFA, rheometry, spectrophotometry, optical microscopy, hardness testers, and mechanical property testing
- Experience in conducting technical evaluations of material processes and understanding of how the interaction between process variables can affect the resulting material performance
- Ability to interact with and convey concepts to all levels of the organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
