Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

In Project Kuiper Enterprise Technology, we build the software, services, and infrastructure that enable our program to design and engineer the future of LEO Satellite based broadband services.

As an IT Support manager, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the onsite technical infrastructure across Kuiper Facilities. In this role, you will provide leadership to a team that is responsible for onsite production Infrastructure and IT Support for end user devices. This is a new role so you will build, develop, and lead a team of engineers to support Kuiper manufacturing and report key operational metrics to the business. You will work closely with stakeholders across various hardware design, software and business teams to identify and drive innovative solutions that achieve business goals and align with long-term product roadmaps.

You will work alongside other Program Managers, Product Managers, Software Development Managers and Engineers to drive key business initiatives. Our ideal candidate will have a strong Data Center and IT Support background, with demonstrated experience leading highly effective Technical Operations teams supporting critical infrastructure.

Key job responsibilities

- In this new role you will design and implement the strategic plan for deploying and supporting the onsite manufacturing infrastructure and end user devices at Kuiper.

- Build and lead a team of IT Support engineers to deploy and support manufacturing infrastructure and end users devices across multiple locations.

- Build mechanisms to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction.

- Align the team to organizational performance goals and objectives related to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.

- Assist & manage relationships with external vendors & contractors.

- Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals.

- Responsible for strategic planning and forecasting; performance appraisal; problem resolution; and staffing needs.

- Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.

- Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.

- Hire, lead, and develop the onsite technical operations team in multiple facilities

- Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

- Assist in implementing service methodologies that include incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, and inventory management.

- Own the execution of Inventory management and asset tracking across Kuiper.

- Write strong documents for proposing new business processes and metrics reporting.

- Communicate technical information across all levels of the organization

About the team

To enable production, the Kuiper Builder Enablement and Engagement organization provides infrastructure, IT and builder support to all Kuiper engineering and service teams. As individual teams we provide subject matter expertise that enables Kuiper Engineers to design and build best in class, from LRU rack design and provisioning to PCBA release, we traverse the full suite of services. As an organization, we are the schema connecting Kuiper Engineering teams to production.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related engineering discipline OR equivalent experience managing technical operations or engineering teams.

- 8+ years management experience in an operations, critical infrastructure, manufacturing, production, or distribution environment

- 8+ years experience managing an IT support team with multiple tiers.

- 10+ years of experience working with computer components and operating systems.

- Financial acumen in annual budgeting, Capex and Opex



Extended Qualifications

- Master's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.

- Safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.

- Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.

- 7+ years experience managing geographically dispersed teams

- 7+ years of hands-on experience with mission critical infrastructure

- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
