We are seeking a Safety & 5S Specialist to support safety excellence and 5S implementation across our lab operations. This role will conduct safety walks, perform 5S audits, maintain compliance documentation, and deliver training on established safety and 5S protocols. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on lab technical skills with attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining safe, organized workspaces.
Key job responsibilities
You will conduct regular safety walks and inspections using established checklists and procedures, identifying safety hazards and implementing straightforward corrective actions while maintaining safety documentation, logs, and incident reports following standard procedures. You'll deliver safety training to team members using established materials, collaborate with safety captains and area leaders on safety initiatives, and escalate complex safety issues appropriately to management.
Your work includes executing 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) practices following defined standards, conducting 5S audits using established criteria and assessment tools, and implementing and maintaining visual management systems per team guidelines. You'll apply 5S standards and contribute to updates under guidance, deliver 5S training using established materials and resources, and support team-level 5S improvement projects. Understanding lab operations, you'll complete straightforward lab engineering tasks using SOPs and documentation, operate shop tools and lab equipment safely and effectively, and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient lab environment following 5S principles while supporting environmental and reliability testing activities as needed.
You'll collaborate effectively with engineers, managers, and partner teams, following standard operating procedures and work instructions while making appropriate trade-offs between speed, quality, and resource constraints. Your communication responsibilities include documenting safety observations, corrective actions, and audit results, clearly communicating status updates, issues, and blockers to team and management, and participating actively in team meetings and safety reviews. You'll create clear, accurate reports using established templates and formats, seek help when needed, and escalate appropriately, understanding how your work impacts team goals and contributes to operational excellence.
A day in the life
Your day includes conducting safety walks using established checklists, identifying hazards, and implementing straightforward corrective actions while escalating complex issues to your manager. You'll perform scheduled 5S audits, collaborate with team leads to address findings, and help implement visual management improvements like shadow boards and updated labeling. You deliver training sessions to technicians using established materials, demonstrating proper organization techniques and answering questions about maintaining safe workspaces.
Throughout the day, you document your findings in safety logs and tracking systems, update audit results, and prepare status reports for your manager. You work closely with engineers, machinist, and managers across the lab, following established procedures while contributing to a safer, more organized environment.
About the team
The Amazon LEO (KMS) Machine shop provides development fabrication capabilities as well as future production machining. These operations occur in our Redmond facilities.

Qualifications
- Experience planning and maintaining lab facilities for optimal efficiency and creating new processes when necessary- 3+ years of consumer electronics lab environments experience
- 2+ years of project management, including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status and prioritizing tasks experience
Extended Qualifications
- 2+ years of consumer electronics lab environments experience- High school or equivalent, or 3+ years of demonstrating safety standards experience
- 1+ years of demonstrating safety standards experience
- Experience in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or related fields
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt, or 2+ years of managing department spend and labor budgets, performing root cause analysis (RCA), and implementing continuous improvement (CI) experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
