Description

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Manufacturing Systems Engineering under Kuiper Production Operations is seeking a Senior Test Systems Engineer to spearhead our test optimization initiatives that enhance both the speed and quality of satellite component testing. Your primary focus will be on establishing robust requirements management processes and ensuring traceability across all production test stages. Working cross-functionally, you will coordinate test system requirements alignment while optimizing test efficiency without compromising quality standards.

A key aspect of your role will involve reducing overall test time through strategic implementation of appropriate environmental testing methodologies. As the technical lead for test systems optimization, you will drive requirements-based decisions through data analysis, collaborate with multiple engineering teams, and to enhance our testing methodologies. This position plays a crucial role in achieving our objectives of reducing test cycle times, optimizing test sequence processes, and improving overall testing efficiency while maintaining the rigorous quality standards essential for satellite production.

Key job responsibilities

•Lead and conduct complex system-level analyses across multiple subsystems to optimize manufacturing test systems architecture and develop comprehensive test requirements, while eliminating redundant testing through proper data analysis and evaluation of design alternatives.

• Derive and synthesize requirements for test system efficiency, operational excellence, and user experience across the manufacturing test systems

• Manage end-to-end test mapping across production stages (PCBA through final assembly) for Satellite LRUs (Line Replacement Units) by performing analysis between existing test coverage and required specifications, to optimize test coverage while ensuring quality.

•Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions for test systems, balancing performance, schedule, cost, risk, and scalability requirements

• Create and maintain requirements traceability matrices connecting business needs to test specifications

• Implement and oversee requirements management processes, tools, and change control procedures

• Develop V&V (Verification & Validation) documentation using standard systems engineering tools

• Develop and implement processes to facilitate communication of test systems requirements design/architecture with partner teams including Load and Dynamics, Manufacturing, and Labs engineering teams to establish ESS (Environmental Stress Screening) process and requirements

• Design and implement data analytics frameworks for test result analysis and statistical modeling

• Drive test optimization through data-driven decision making and requirement updates

• Establish and monitor KPIs and metrics for test performance

• Conduct trend analysis for early identification of quality issues

• Create comprehensive reports and dashboards for effective stakeholder communication

Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field

•7+ years’ experience in test systems automation or systems engineering with focus on requirements, V&V and Lifecycle management.

• Experience identifying missing requirements and incomplete designs for existing systems and products.

•Experience with Programming Language, data analysis tools or statistical software.

•Proven record of Test Procedures Development, optimization through automation, and environmental test chambers testing

•Experience in communicating with stakeholder, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives and develop processes and tools

•Experience with one of any requirements management tools (e.g. JIRA, Jama)

•Experience breaking down and framing problems to reduce ambiguity and complexity for others, including technical teams and decision makers.

•Demonstrated depth and breadth of technical expertise to lead in technical collaboration across domains

•Has led and/or reviewed the work of design and/or test teams to evaluate and identify technical Test Systems design options, conducting trade studies and best practices needed to satisfy design goals

Extended Qualifications

•Knowledge of industry standard test methodologies

•Experience in development of automated test equipment (ATE) and test program development

•Proven track record of implementing process improvements in electronic manufacturing environments and contract manufacturers (CMs)

•Experience with embedded software deployment and provisioning processes

•Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

•Experience with thermal cycling, humidity, altitude, and vibration testing

•Understanding of environmental stress screening (ESS) methodologies
