Description

We are a global organization dedicated to delivering heart's safest food via Amazons food grocery and private brand business. Our work impacts thousands of customers daily and our team has the opportunity to positively impact people and communities around the world in an area core to existence – food.

We are seeking a resourceful and strategic Principal in Global Food Safety Operations to develop and oversee our Equivalency Program. Their primary responsibility will be to develop and implement strategies that establish global equivalency in food safety processes, ensuring consistent risk-based control systems, safety levels, compliance and quality across our diverse range of products and industries. The role will bring best practices from the industry and build mechanisms to drive results.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading global food safety programs in a retail environment and a strong track record for accelerating programs and delivering results. We are a dynamic organization, and the ideal candidate is a quick learner who excels in fast-paced, ambiguous environments. This role is both an inventor and operator. We seek a person who can think big picture and long-term to define strategy and influence leadership, while also rolling-up their sleeves to dig into the data and effectively manage risk assessments, gap analysis and customer feedback.

Key job responsibilities

- Develop and execute a comprehensive global equivalency strategy for food safety standards, in collaboration with cross-functional teams across different business segments.

- Implement a equivalency program, consistent with our vision and driven by clear success metrics

- Determine how to efficiently evolve the program according to changing regulations related to food safety and quality assurance

- Provide expert guidance and support to regional teams and suppliers on conducting risk assessments, and implementing corrective actions to maintain consistent compliance levels.

- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and deliver training programs on global food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices, fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

- Serve as a subject matter expert on food safety equivalency in cross-functional meetings, projects, and initiatives, ensuring alignment with our overarching goals and objectives.

A day in the life

The first half of your day, you’re monitoring progress on short- and long-term goals using both analytics you’ve developed with Business Intelligence and qualitative insights from stakeholder teams. You steer a range of one-on-one and small-group discussions to remain plugged in to evolving business plans. The second half of the day you are crafting a 3-page proposal for executive leaders on a new harmonization model that will improve our ability to measure and control risks. At the end of the day, you recognize one of your stakeholder teams is at risk of not meeting their equivalency plan. You assess the situation, determine how best to course-correct, then craft a note to the applicable executive lead to surface the concern and your recommended course of action.

About the team

Our team creates and governs food-safety-related programs and processes, within the Operations org. We partner with and support Amazon business teams leading growth in grocery and other food channels. Working side-by-side with compliance teams covering non-food safety, we share compliance strategy and scalable processes.
