Amazon Web Services is seeking Sr Hardware Development Engineer to become part of a global engineering team, pioneering and developing the next generation of security systems for AWS data centers. A successful candidate will have an established background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent and has the ability to cross disciplines to a limited degree in order to understand designs, and to communicate with external vendors. This position requires independent decision making and self-learning in regards to cross discipline concepts. Being a self-starter is highly expected for this role. This role will serve as a design engineer and engineering SME in order to drive new solutions for existing equipment/processes by collaborating with internal stakeholders, vendors, contractors and machine builders. The candidate will be directly responsible for communication with ODM engineers to convey the group's engineering goals & design expectations and providing information needed to drive completion. The candidate shall be able to provide mechanical design ideas and controls architecture & functionality. The engineer would act as a true design consultant for mechanical needs with some in-house testing and programming required.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead product high level architecture
- Turn business requirements into product requirements
- Drive technical discussions with stakeholders and suppliers during RFPs
- Evaluate technical sections of proposals during vendor selection
- Work with ODMs to turn requirements into specifications
- Develop validation tests; both internal and vendor-driven
- Audit ODM progress
- Bring up prototypes on site
- Iterate on designs until high volume production
- Test failure analysis and solution validation to complete successful product development
- Product documentation
- Support positive team interactions to accomplish program objectives
- Provide cross-functional program integration support to ensure team success
- Lead project teams to timely delivery of products
- Schedule and milestone management
- Apply technical expertise to problem solving throughout product lifecycle
- Ability to travel at least 20% globally to interact with external vendors and internal customers

You collaborate with your team to deliver projects. You identify and communicate issues associated with the design, development, and modification of data center technologies and their implementation. You seek to learn the business context and the technologies that make up our global infrastructure architecture. You work effectively with peer engineers and internal partners to understand their needs and identify any opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions. You invent, refine, and develop solutions to ensure they are meeting business needs and team goals. You are a passionate advocate for your customer.

DCE Security Solutions team provides engineering expertise and design support for security devices and solutions in data centers globally. We own and support security products throughout their lifecycle. Our scope also includes emergent global scale remediation strategic efforts that impact Data Center Security and introducing and driving business improvement initiatives increasing visibility and enabling data driven decision making.

Qualifications
- BS or BA in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline- 10+ years experience in new product introduction and product life cycle management
- 5+ years experience in management of engineering design projects in the ODM model
- 5+ years experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor, Microsoft Office, PLC/HMI Programming, Motors, VFDs, and 24VDC control devices (such as limit switches, solenoids, photo eyes and E-Stops)
- 5+ years experience with design for six sigma with hands one experience in tools like FMEA, DVP&R and product reliability analysis
Extended Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering (any discipline)- Experienced in engaging customers to gather requirements and develop specifications
- Analytic problem solving skills, including knowledge of 8D, Six Sigma, DOE or similar disciplines
- Experienced in designing material handling systems and related automation equipment, with a high Mechanical aptitude for hands on innovation
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
