and services that powers the Amazon Logistics and Transportation operations that move goods for Amazon warehouses globally over land, air, rail, and sea. The team's charter covers technology used in asset tracking, telematics, IOT, sensing and detection, safety, security and process automation - at scale.

Key job responsibilities

As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will own the full life cycle of defining, building, deploying and operating hardware technology that will transform the operations of the global Amazon Middle Mile network.

You will not only be responsible for delivering high quality hardware, you will also own interactions with your customers and be responsible for delivering architectural designs for products at massive scale.

Your projects will enable consistent and reliable delivery for our customers, improve the safety of our drivers and directly contribute to the efficiency of the middle mile network.

Key job responsibilities

You will design and develop hardware systems used by Amazon worldwide and will regularly interact with customers, other engineers and business leadership. You will participate in the planning and execution of technology projects including working with external vendors, hardware selection, system design, build/buy analysis and testing. You’ll also mentor junior engineers in employing strong design and implementation practices.

You will combine your skills to design and implement hardware systems end-to-end. You will manage external vendors or coordinate with internal resources to successfully deliver your projects.

Ideally, you will be comfortable writing firmware and software at the edge. You will integrate edge compute, low power and high power compute systems.

About the team

You will work with a diverse team of Hardware and Software engineers who will work alongside you to innovate and deliver solutions for middle mile transportation. Our mission is to deploy hardware devices, firmware and the cloud services to track and collect telemetry from our assets on the road and under the roof. We work with internal customers in operations, planning and transportation. This team has extremely high ownership to ensure robust, quality and accurate solutions.



Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

- 4+ years of relevant experience

- Strong fundamentals in analog, digital, and RF circuit design

- Experience with embedded systems prototyping and implementation

- Strong knowledge of wireless protocols, particularly Bluetooth and RFID technologies

- Experience with PCB design and layout

- Proficiency in using electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers)

- Strong mathematical and electromagnetic theory fundamentals

- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts across disciplines

- Experience in requirements gathering from stakeholders and translating to technical specifications



Extended Qualifications

- Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

- Experience in RF system design and optimization

- Proficiency in embedded firmware development (C/C++/Python)

- Experience with low-power design and battery optimization

- Knowledge of wireless certification requirements (FCC, CE, etc.)

- Experience with antenna design and RF propagation

- Familiarity with IoT protocols and standards

- Experience with signal processing and digital communication systems

- Track record of successful product development from concept to mass production

- Experience working with contract manufacturers and managing external partners

- Knowledge of EMC/EMI testing and compliance requirements

- Understanding of mechanical design considerations

- Familiar with test methodologies such as Design of Experiment and statistical analysis

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
